(2)    Loss of Credential.  An employee in this occupation who fails to obtain licensure/certification/registration within the required time frame, or who fails to maintain the required licensure/certification/registration must be removed from the occupation, which may also result in termination of employment.  English Language Proficiency:  Audiologists must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with Title 38, United States Code (38 U.S.C.).  GGrade Requirements:  In addition to meeting the basic requirements, applicants must have at least one year of active professional practice or its equivalent.  To be creditable, the experience must have required the use of knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics associated with contemporary professional audiology practice.  For GS-09: None beyond the basic requirements. For GS-11: Completion of 1 year of professional experience as an audiologist equivalent to the next lower level (GS-09); or 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a doctoral degree; or doctoral degree in audiology, hearing science, or a directly related field.  Staff Audiologist at this grade level performs audiology assessment and treatment intervention.  If unlicensed, the individual must function under the supervision of a licensed audiologist. For GS-12: In addition to the requirements for GS-11 level, completion of 1 year of professional experience comparable to the next lower level (GS-11) and possession of a full, current and unrestricted license to practice audiology.  Staff Audiologist at this grade level must demonstrate professional knowledge of, and skill in applying, a wide range of theories, principles, and methodologies of the practice of audiology to a wide range of populations. You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position. You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position.
