Responsibilities
Perform routine pulmonary testing to include:
Spirometry pre/post bronchodilator
Body Plethysmography
DLCO
Arterial Puncture
Venipuncture
Oximetry Rest &/or Exercise
MCC testing
Sputum Induction
Muscle forces
Blood analysis
Maintain & calibrate of various PFT equipment
Prepare methacholine solutions for MCC tests
Patient scheduling using IDX software
Participate in performance appraisal process for all laboratory personnel
Assist in training new technologists
Ensure that the laboratory is in compliance with all CLIA federal regs
Primarily maintain all required documentation for ABG/ Co-ox
Primarily responsible for ordering of all laboratory supplies
Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge by performing routine and complex
procedures utilizing instrumentation and manual methods
Maintain a clean and safe environment for testing
Follow cleaning & disinfecting policies
Assist staff assistants with preparation of PFT reports
All other duties assigned

Children's Hospital Boston's Pulmonary Department is seeking a high energy Pulmonary Technologist to join its team. This individual will perform a variety of pulmonary function tests, sweat tests and arterial blood gases on infants, children and adults. Primary responsibilities are to conduct testing, assemble and analyze data collected, perform calculations, assess the quality of the study, generate reports, and inform and discuss results with referring clinicians. In addition, this individual would partake in maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment, perform quality control procedures and troubleshoot equipment as able.The position requires a mature individual who is very detail oriented and comfortable with a high degree of accountability. A Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in a life science. Prior experience working in a clinical capacity and/or working with children is sought.The successful candidate must effectively provide empathy in sensitive situations involved with serving patients and families. Excellent interpersonal, communication and technical skills are essential. Computer proficiency is required to conduct testing and enter, track and maintain information.
