Licensed occupational therapy assistant practitioners advance along a continuum from entry to advanced level, based on experience, education, and practice skills. Development along this continuum is dependent on the development of service competency. The OT/L has ultimate overall responsibility for service provision. Entry level OTA/L's require close supervision by an OT/L, or if pertinent regulations permit, by an experienced OTA/L, under the direction of an OT/L. Intermediate or advanced OTA/L's require general supervision after service competency has been determined by the supervising occupational therapist. This position has the authority to make minor adjustments in individual patient programs, schedule patients, document objective data and recommend and obtain routine appropriate equipment. Decisions referred to OT/L are performance of initial patient evaluations and re-evaluations, major changes in treatment program, establishment of goals, ordering custom equipment and preparation of complex discharge summaries to establish continuity a minimum of weekly discussions are held with each primary therapist concerning the patients. Approval from the department manager or supervisor is needed for changes in department policies and procedures, hospital provided travel and continuing education programs, purchasing supplies and equipment, changes in work schedule, changes or development of therapeutic programs, and activities interfacing with other departments. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: 1. Completion of an AOTA approved occupational therapy assistant program. 2. Requires the ability to speak, read, and write English.
