MAJOR OBJECTIVE: Initiate the teaching and learning process with a focus on continuous improvement. Create an environment in which students can accomplish the learning objectives of the course of instruction. This program has currently been granted candidacy status for accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education. ACCOUNTABILITIES: Dunwoody College of Technology currently has the need for several Adjunct Instructors to teach in its Physical Therapist Assistant Program. The instructors would be accountable for teaching the following courses: PTA116 - PT Interventions I (Theory) This course introduces massage techniques and modalities including superficial heat and cold techniques. Ultrasound and deep heat therapy, traction, and clinical management skills. Scientific evidence for treatments, the efficacy of treatment, and indications and contraindications will be discussed. PTA117 - Physical Therapy Interventions I (Lab) This course will give the student hands-on experience with modalities and massage, problem solving skills, interviewing the patient, documentation, goals and expectations of treatment, and appropriate education to the patient simulator. Hands-on techniques include massage, superficial heat and cold treatments, ultrasound and deep heat therapy, and traction. PTA118 - Therapeutic Exercise I (Lecture) This course focuses on the study of therapeutic exercise as it relates to cardiovascular health, strengthening, range of motion, manual muscle testing, normal and abnormal gait, and mobility. PTA119 - Therapeutic Exercise I (Lab) This course focuses on application of therapeutic exercise techniques learned in Therapeutic Exercise I (Theory). Rationale for techniques and application of exercise to patients with a variety of disabilities and pathologies will be discussed. PTA120 - Clinical Orthopedics Applying knowledge from Kinesiology, Physical Therapy Interventions, and Therapeutic Exercise, this course will introduce common orthopedic conditions and how physical therapy is used to assist patients to reach their fullest functional ability. We will also discuss the pathophysiology of musculoskeletal conditions. Minnesota licensure as Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant. At least 3 years of documented clinical experience, including work experience in the Physical Therapist/ Physical Therapist Assistant relationship. Didactic and/or clinical teaching experience. Experience in educational theory and methodology (curricular design, development, implementation, and evaluation). Experience in instructional design and methodology. Sholom Community Alliance, one of the leading senior housing and healthcare service organizations in the Twin Cities, is seeking an on-call Physical Therapist Assistant to join our team at the Shaller Family Campus in St. Paul.
DUTIES
Assessment: The Physical Therapist Assistant will obtain pertinent data necessary for the identification or treatment of those in need for skilled intervention from medical records, patient observation and interview and/or the administration of standardized tests in accordance with physician orders. The Physical Therapist Assistant may contribute to the assessment and reassessment process under the supervision of the Physical Therapist.
Treatment: The Physical Therapist Assistant while under the direction of the Physical Therapist will plan, direct and conduct programs to develop, improve and/or restore the performance of necessary functions, compensate for dysfunction and/or minimize debilitation.
Consultation: The Physical Therapist Assistant will provide explanatory instruction to the patient, primary caregivers and medical personnel to help them understand and deal more effectively with patients. This would include the attendance to patient care conferences and any other interdisciplinary team meeting.
Documentation: The Physical Therapist Assistant will keep timely treatment records, progress notes, patient files and written plans of care as required. The Physical Therapist Assistant may contribute to the formation of the intervention plan under the supervision of the Physical Therapist.
Supervision: The Physical Therapist Assistant will receive direction and supervision from the Physical Therapist as defined by official APTA documents. The amount of supervision must be provided in accordance with state law and regulation.
QUALIFICATIONS
The Physical Therapist Assistant will maintain a current license and/or certification as required by law.
The Physical Therapist Assistant will practice and manage physical therapy programs in accordance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
The Physical Therapist Assistant will follow and adhere to the HIPPA policies and procedures of the Sholom Community Alliance.
The Physical Therapist Assistant will maintain and update professional knowledge, skills and abilities through appropriate continuing education or in-service training or higher education. The nature and minimum amount of continuing education must be consistent with state law and regulation.
The Physical Therapist Assistant shall maintain current knowledge of the legislative, political, social and cultural issues that effect this profession.
