Job Title: Recreation Therapist Company: Location: Gainesville, GA Description: Duty Location:  North Florida/South Georgia VA Health Care System, Lake City, FL Tour of Duty:  The tours are varied to include evenings, weekends and holidays.  This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-10. At the GS-07and GS-09 grade levels, the incumbent performs assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. The incumbent will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-10. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds. Major Duties and Responsibilities include:  As Recreation Therapist, the employee is responsible for the Recreation Therapy program management for patients with severe disabilities on the designated medical center wards or units as assigned by the Supervisor, Recreation Therapy.  Plans and carries out a full range of treatment modalities where therapeutic objectives are complex and the procedures require the application of highly specialized skills and knowledge. Performs and documents complex assignments, treatment plans, and evaluations throughinterdisciplinary team collaboration.  Designs, plans and implements treatment activities and recreation programs in community and clinical settings to meet the assessed needs of the patients, utilize appropriateate motivational and leadership approaches. Conducts primary care management duties and responsibilities as agreed to with the treatment coordinator and Supervisor, Recreation Therapy.  Accepts responsibilities within the section for directing patient centered activities and programs on a seven day/seven evening per week basis in accordance with pradeterminedined work week schedule. Provides the Supervisor, Recreation Therapy with administrative information including but not limited to workload and program statistics, performance improvement data, program planning, evaluation data, staffing needs, safety issues, etc. Collaborates, maintain liaison and provides in-service training with the interdisciplinary team as well as with other medical center services and staff to ensure a cooperative and well planned approach to patient care. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Assists in supervising staff and students and in developing in-service training programs for continuing staff development. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation. National Certification from the National Council on Therapeutic Recreation Certification. Two years experience.Preferred QualificationsCertified as a recreational therapist.
