Job Title: Recreation Therapist Company: University of Louisville Hospital Location: Louisville, KY Description: To plan and implement recreational programs designed to improve the social, physical, and mental well being of University of Louisville Hospital’s adult (ages 19-65), geriatric (ages 66 and over), and occasionally adolescent (ages 12-18) patients.1. Plans and implements recreational activities which will meet psychiatric inpatients’ need for creative expression and activity, and which move patients toward independence.2. Evaluates capacities, skills, and extent of limitations of patients and plans appropriate programs with patients and medical team.3. Teaches manual and creative skills to improve mobility, coordination, and socialization skills in order to promote emotional and physical stability.4. Assesses patient’s reaction to treatment and makes recommendations to appropriate multi-disciplinary team for the development of the overall treatment plans.5. Accurately and consistently documents patient evaluation and progress as per policy.6. Directs patients groups for the safety and comfort of all while allowing for individual input as appropriate; demonstrates professional and ethical attitude in leading various groups.7. Assists with special patient events/field trips; shows understanding of special needs of psychiatric inpatients on and off unit.8. Maintains craft and recreational equipment and recommends replacements. 9. Communicates and interacts with patients, family, visitors, staff, and public in a positive and supportive manner.10. Demonstrates an appreciation of the hospital mission as a teaching institution by acting as a resource for employees, students, and residents.11. Performs other duties as assigned.
