The hospital is located in a quiet residential neighborhood on the Eastside of Seattle. The Recreational Therapist is responsible for overseeing the therapeutic activities program. The Certified Recreational Therapist will ensure the program is appropriate to the needs and interest of patients and is directed toward restoring and maintaining optimal levels of physical and psychosocial functioning. The Recreation Therapist will actively participate in treatment planning and implementing activity services for the inpatient population, which involves defining and implementing treatment goals as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and providing continuous patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling to patients under the direction of the Manager of Social Services. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Recreational Therapy / Leisure Studies; a Certified Recreational Therapy Specialist (CTRS), or certification eligible Recreational Therapist. Two (2) years of related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness, preferred. Must have current Washington State CTRS registration. Must obtain CPR, CPI, and first aid Certification. May be required to work overtime and flexible hours and weekend rotations. Job Title: Recreational Therapist Company: Psychiatric Solutions Location: Tacoma, WA Description: The Northwest School of Innovative Learning at Fairfax Hospital is an alternative school in Tacoma Washington. The recreation therapist assists in the education of students and helps to administer policies and procedures relating to discipline in accordance with current state and federal standards that govern the rights of students. In addition, the recreation therapist is responsible for planning, assessment, implementing, coordinating and supervising care for students. This position assists in defining and implementing student behavioral goals as a member of the educational team, as well as conducing recreational therapy groups for children. This individual may organize and conduct systematic in-service training for staff as ongoing staff development. This individual provides support in classroom management and in-house suspension management. Quality Assurance duties include documentation of time out, restraint and use of seclusion. Bachelor's Degree in Recreational Therapy. CTRS required. Knowledge of current professional education practice and techniques applicable to the care of students with emotional/behavioral disabilities. Current CPR, First Aid and Washington State driver's license.
