Cares for the Cardio-Pulmonary needs of complex critical patients from newborn to the adult in an independent manner. GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS: EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS ' At least 2 years work experience in an acute care facility. ' Must be able to perform all technical & clinical aspect of the listed job functions in a professional and efficient manner as set by department standards of care. Some of the most frequent shift functions are: ' Pulmonary Hygiene; SVN's, IS, Airway Maintenance, NT-ET, Tracheal Suctioning, and ventilator maintenance (see respiratory scope of service). ' Patient Assessment and Hemodynamics. ' Oxygen set-up & maintenance. ' Pulmonary Diagnostics; PFT's, ABG draw & interpretations. ' Performs EKGs and completes charges and paperwork associated with testing. ' Performs EEGs and completes charges and paperwork associated with testing. ' Patient Transport (in house) ' Respiratory Support; code team member and mechanical ventilation. ' RN, CNA and patient training for specific respiratory issues. Standby to provide expertise and assistance to physicians and nurses inpatient critical care occurrences and special procedures. Provide expertise and guidance to physicians, nurses and other allied health personnel in routine and acute patient care related concerns. ' For patient discharge, provide home care inservice and instruction. Provide assistance with complete information to set up patients on home oxygen when ordered and to provide qualifying test results for insurance companies. ' Assists in preparation and transport of in-house patients requiring oxygen and/or respiratory assistance. ' Assists nursing staff with preparation for patient transfers to other institutions. SENSORY/PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS Sensory: Constant speaking, hearing, near vision, depth perception and touch are essential to performing the job in order to adequately assess the patient. Physical: Frequently lifting of equipment. Lifting up to 20 lbs. Frequent standing and walking while performing patient care procedures and assessments. Frequent lifting, transferring, pushing, pulling, and transporting of patients in excess of 200 lbs, with assistance. Must be able to stand for long periods of time, up to at least three hours during code 99 and critical care patient procedures. Must have good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity especially while performing ABG draws, manual resuscitation and airway care. Must be quick in physical response and very mobile - especially in responding to emergency patient procedures. Occasional bending and reaching to perform patient care duties, pushing and pulling of equipment with 25 lbs of force. Call time: Ability to take rotating call schedule and report to the hospital within 30 minutes from the time of notification. Ability to work late hours during call-in and work their scheduled assigned shift the next day if department staffing is limited.
