Minimum Requirements: Registry with the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist. Current licensure from the state of Maryland as a Respiratory Care Practitioner. At least three years of clinical experience. Current CPR training with recertification every two years. Able to demonstrate good ability to communicate using English language in written and verbal fashion, promoting a team approach to patient care. Visual acuity at all ranges corrected or uncorrected. Description:
The Certified Respiratory Therapist Technician is responsible for the assessment of the patient and performance of diagnostic studies as well as the delivery of direct patient-centered care during his/her tour of duty. The responsibilities include the demonstration of competent and professional clinical practice and delivery of care through established standards of care to patients in the emergency room, intensive care unit, medical/surgical ward, nursing home care unit and clinics. The incumbent of this position also functions as a Polysomnography Technologist in the Sleep Disorders Lab. He/she performs specialized polysomnograms, preparing patients for procedures, performing preventive maintenance on all equipment, cleaning equipment and laboratory, reusable supplies, keeping accurate records, and maintaining an inventory of supplies. The therapist must be able to work independently, be knowledgeable of all pulmonary diseases as well as the different modes of therapy and keep current on new treatments. The therapist must be capable of following therapist driven protocols and making appropriate therapy recommendations to the attending physician. Patient and family education is an important function of the therapist.
