Implements the speech/language therapy services of the school and provides instruction, assessment, and program planning for students identified with a range of disabilities including intellectual, physical, learning, and emotional. Works with the Case Study Committee (CSC) to provide interventions as part of pre-referral; administers screening tests in the areas of speech/language/1iteracy; and, as necessary, administers diagnostic speech/language assessments for students suspected of having a disability through a variety of assessment options (formal and informal). Interprets assessment results for team members and parents; uses assessment results and student performance to inform and differentiate instruction. Provides speech/language therapy to students with a variety of speech language impairments to include articulation, stuttering, voice, cleft palate, cerebral palsy, delayed speech, hard of hearing, autism spectrum disorder, brain injury, and others as appropriate. In collaboration with classroom teachers and specialists, plans therapy schedules utilizing appropriate service delivery options to meet the needs of each student in a variety of settings including but not limited to therapy room, general education classroom, resource room, consultation, collaboration, and co-teaching. Collaborates with classroom teachers to facilitate application of therapy gains into classroom activities; explains the connection between spoken and written language to literacy; works collaboratively with classroom teachers to identify children at risk for literacy (reading/writing) difficulties, and provides interventions to assist teachers in working with students with reading/writing difficulties including demonstrating interventions, explaining materials, and suggesting remedial activities. Documents student progress through the use of formative and summative assessment tools; recognizes and respects diversity; demonstrates sensitivity and respect for each students background experience and culture; maintains individual records using the school information system as appropriate. Serves as an informational resource for teachers, students, parents, district personnel and community organizations; responds to inquires and provides information, recommendations, and interpretations of student records.
