Our clinicians work with a varied caseload, pre-schoolers through adults, and have flexible schedules. Specific schedules and caseloads are tailored to each clinician, dependent upon each clinician's desires and expertise. Some clinical work is provided right at our office, although most service is provided at one or more nearby schools or other facilities with whom we contract. Clinicians are always placed in settings conducive to a professional environment with MANAGEABLE CASELOADS/WORKLOADS. In some cases, we will not contract with schools unless a caseload cap is written into the contract. This ensures that each placement will allow the clinician to provide a professional service with the ability to improve the communication function of his/her clients, and not merely keep paperwork updated. Provides Speech-Language Pathology evaluation, treatment, and consultation independently to typical patients within a program under the prescription of a physician and within the guidelines designated by departmental and hospital policies and procedures. Expands knowledge of less common populations seen within the program through mentorship, educational opportunities, etc. A. Direct Patient Care Responsibilities 1. Demonstrates proficiency in the care of pediatrics, adolescents, and adults. 2. Demonstrates proficiency in the care of neonates as required by assignment. 3. Evaluates patients for speech-language pathology treatment including equipment, home programs, etc. 4. Independently provides and coordinates age appropriate speech-language pathology consultation, treatment plans and treatment in routine patient care situations. 5. Completes timely documentation as required by departmental policy, JCAHO, and CARF standards. 6. Consults with other services, families, and outside agencies to recommend equipment, home or school modifications, transition of care, etc. 7. Assists in maintenance of department equipment. 8. Maintains knowledge of and familiarity with the insurance referral/authorization process. 9. May begin to investigate specialty areas within the speech-language pathology discipline. 10. Attends meetings related to patient treatment and contributes to discussions as interdisciplinary team member. B. Indirect Patient Care Responsibilities 1. Staff development: assesses existing and develops new activities that promote general knowledge and professionalism within the department; participates in peer review process. Attends inservices/continuing education, provides updates in the form of inservices to the department. 2. CQI: participates in program, discipline, specialty, and hospital-wide CQI projects. 3. Assessment and Treatment: contributes to discipline and program committees to enhance patient care; assists in assessing current procedures and assists in developing methods of improvement related to patient care. 4. Program Development: participates in activities to increase program use, awareness, and marketability. Attends monthly program meetings. Contributes to achievement of department/program goals. 5. Clinical Education: Assists in mentoring affiliating speech-language pathology students, new speech-language pathology staff, support personnel, and volunteers. Adequately and appropriately supervises CFY staff. Assists with hospital wide student teaching; participates in student and volunteer program organization. 6. Team work: Participates in single discipline, multi-disciplinary, and specialty teams. 7. Professional Development: Developing ties with professional organizations. Provides educational inservices and experiences to the discipline/program and outside community. Attends speech-language pathology meetings as scheduled in the hospital. May participate in promotional activities for speech-language pathology and/or hospital. 8. Mandatory Inservice Training: Completes department and hospital annual mandatory inservice training. Maintains CPR requirements. Annual radiation safety training for those performing Modified Barium Swallow Studies. 9. Weekend Rehab Rotation: Checks crash cart per hospital policy. Education, Area of Study, Training and Experience: A. Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or its equivalent from an ASHA accredited university B. Familiarity with speech and language development, deviation, and disorders. Familiarity with assessment scales and instruments, techniques of assessment and intervention with pediatric populations. C. Clinical internship in pediatrics preferred D. Experience with physically and or mentally challenged populations preferred. E. Strong written and verbal communication skills .Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications: A. Hold Delaware State License (permanent or temporary) to practice Speech-Language Pathology within 2 weeks of date of hire. B. Hold ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP), or in process of completing Clinical Fellowship Year with goal of completing CCC-SLP within 10-12 months. C. CPR certification (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) within 6 months of date of hire. D. Member of professional specialty organizations (ASHA, Delaware Speech and Hearing Association) preferred. Physical demands are moderately heavy, requiring the ability to lift and/or carry approximately 50 lbs., transfers, pushing wheelchairs, and moving large equipment.
