Evaluates patient's speech, language and swallowing abilities in order to formulate and conduct treatment plan designed to improve communicative efficiency of patients with communication problems. Establishes patient treatment goals tailored to each patient's needs and capabilities.2. Demonstrates competency in understanding the growth and development of infant, child, adolescent, and geriatric patients as measured by specific performance standards and as described by department/unit policies and procedures. Demonstrates the ability to interpret growth and development related information to assure patient needs are met.3. Reviews patient's chart, interviews patient/family and consults with physicians, audiologists and other relevant clinical professionals in order to evaluate patient condition according to standard procedures.4. Counsels patients, family members/significant others regarding communication deficits and instructs them in proper management techniques.5. Monitors patient progress, re-establishes goals and revises treatment plan as necessary. Alerts physicians to changes in patient's condition.6. Maintains clinical records including writing diagnostic reports, progress reports, discharge summaries, re-evaluations and rechecks, summarizing family and professional contact and logging daily statistics and other clinical data.7. Attends patient team conferences, clinics, inservice education classes and meetings as necessary in order to gather and exchange patient/treatment information. Keeps informed of developments in the field in order to maintain and enhance professional expertise.8. Adheres to the Code of Ethics established by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association.9. Completes successfully the RICIS training programs and utilizes RICIS in performing job duties, as needed.10. May serve as clinical practicum supervisor for graduate students in Speech-Language Pathology.OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES11. May teach in courses sponsored by the Dixon Education and Training Center of the RIC Academy12. May participate in research projects13. Requires knowledge in diagnoses and types of treatment for speech, language, swallowing and behavior problems of neurologically impaired at a level generally acquired through completion of a Master's or doctoral degree in Speech-Language Pathology from a program accredited by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.2. May hold Clinical Specialty Recognition by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Or certification in neurological communication disorders by the Academy of Neurological Communication Disorders and Sciences3. Current Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association4. Current Illinois license as Speech-language Pathologist or Temporary license as Speech-Language Pathologist if in Clinical Fellowship Year.5. Approximately six to twelve months on-the-job experience necessary in order to gain full knowledge of Speech/language techniques and objectives to be able to develop and administer treatment programs.6. Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with patients and families in providing treatment and with physicians, audiologist and other closely related clinical professionals in order to gather and exchange patient information.8. Analytical skills necessary in order to administer and evaluate standardized speech/language tests, evaluate patient capabilities, develop treatment plans and monitor patient progress.Working Conditions1.
