Job Title: Respiratory Therapy Supervisor Company: Kindred Healthcare Location: Louisville, KY Description: Conducts job responsibilities in accordance with the standards set forth in Kindreds Code of Business Conduct, Kindred policy and procedures, applicable federal and state laws and applicable professional standards.Performs planning, coordinating and supervision of the activities of technical staff during the day shift.Provides care for the adult or geriatric patient, ages 18 and over.Is responsible for arranging for or providing emergency coverage when the need arises.Performs therapeutic and Blood Gas Lab duties along with other duties.Consults with and advises staff technicians regarding proper use of equipment, management of difficult patients, etc.Performs merit evaluations as well as disciplinary actions documentation.Assists in review of therapeutic and Blood Gas Lab policies and procedures. Recommends new policies and procedures or revision of existing ones as needed.Checks VenTouch for correct charting by technical staff.Maintains efficient function of Blood Gas Laboratory.Maintains blood gas quality control records and reports status of same to the Manager.Takes an active role in in0service education of the technicians as well as the orientation of nursing personnel to Respiratory Therapy.Maintains an appropriate inventory of all necessary therapeutic and blood gas equipment and supplies.Performs daily patient billing/charge audits.Performs any and/or all of the duties of the Respiratory Therapy Technician (staff) as required, including blood gas analysis and arterial puncture.Assists in the quality assurance program within the Department.Assumes the role and responsibilities of the Manager of Respiratory Care Services in the absence of a Manager.Performs the repair, preventive maintenance,and use of quality control media for all Blood Gas laboratory instrumentation and other patient monitors.Teaches Blood Gas personnel the theory and methodology of all tests and services performed by the Blood Gas Laboratory.Assists in the inventory contorl and ordering of supplies.Provides information for statistical reports and data accumulation.Participates in the Hazardous Material Program. Hazards include exposure to blood and body fluides, possible communicable diseases, sharp objects and instruments, assorted chemicals and gases as listed in the Hazardous Materials Program Manual.Develops an understanding of responsibilities for participation in QI activities.
