Reports to Therapy Department Leadership. Performs designated routine tasks with minimum supervision related to the operation of Rehabilitation Services. This includes maintenance of the working area, equipment and storage areas; transporting, transferring and setting up patients for treatments; adjusting equipment and assisting in patient care activities as directed by the Rehabilitation Services staff. Therapist and Treatment Assistance:
- Sets up patients with proper positioning and draping in preparations for intervention and sets up modality as instructed by Rehabilitation professional.
- Assists patients with dressing/undressing or toileting as requested by the therapist.
- Assists therapists with guarding, transfers or exercises as needed during the delivery of therapeutic intervention.
- Assists with patient transportation as needed including transferring patients between different surfaces.
- Demonstrates safe patient handling techniques (I.e. maintains total hip precautions, sternal precautions when transferring patients) and monitors patients during treatment or activities as directed by a Rehabilitation professional.
- Assisting in the supervision of patients during field trips and Hospital activities.
Department Preparation and Cleaning:
- Prepares the treatment area and cleans beds, rooms, and equipment for patient treatments.
- Assists in the adaptation and assembly of equipment as instructed by a Rehabilitation professional.
- Keeps inventory of supplies, linens, and orders as needed.
- Issues wheelchairs and/or proper equipment for patients as established by the therapists/Therapy Leader.
- Contributes in completion of scheduled cleaning duties in assigned work area.
- Follows through with task list as established by therapist or Therapy Leader.
Department Operations:
- Assists with clerical and/or scheduling activities as directed by Therapy Leader.
- Proactively seeks to assists others when personal workload is low.
- Meets all defined deadlines (CPR, TB, Mandatory In-service, skills competencies).
- Participates in program development, special projects, performance improvement, etc.
- When participating in meetings, content of communication is appropriate for meeting format.
- Team norms are consistently followed for communication.
- Monitors office supplies for therapies and orders as appropriate.
- Maintains inventory of supplies from outside vendors and order as appropriate.
- Performs audits as instructed by Therapy Leader. Update MSDS Book for therapy.
- Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department:
- Completes other job-related duties and projects as assigned.
Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:
- Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
- Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
- Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
- Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
- Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
- Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
- Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
- Complies with established organization and department policies.
- Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

- The knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a High School Diploma or Equivalent. Valid State issued Driver's License required for full and part time positions (not required for PRN positions). Up to 1 year experience is required. Experience in patient transporting and/or assisting in a Therapy Department setting is required.
Knowledge & Skills
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills necessary to consistently interact with patients, families, visitors, and staff in a courteous manner and to maintain positive working relationships.
- Requires basic office skills (i.e., filing, phone usage, computers and other keyboarding equipment).
- Attention to detail and accuracy is required.
- Maintains current BLS certification.
Working Conditions
- Works in a patient care environment requiring physical exertion, frequent changes in job demands, certain undesirable patient care activities
- At risk for occupational exposure to infectious diseases.
Physical Demands
- Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e. to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, push carts/wheelchairs up to 50 pounds, to position/lift patients at a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted, over 35 pounds requires assistance, provide CPR, etc.) to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Sufficient balance and strength necessary in standing to ensure patient safety.
