Salary Range : All new external applicants will be placed on the initial step of the salary range. However, placement above the initial step of the salary range will be based on special characteristics and critical needs of the position, an applicant's exceptional qualifications, the availability of funds, and other relevant factors. Such appointments require prior approval. Hawaii State Department of Education employees will be placed on the salary range in accordance with Department regulations.
Educational Audiologist, SR-26: $6,399.00 - $7,787.00 per month- Administers comprehensive audiological, auditory processing and functional listening evaluations.
- Provides educationally relevant interpretation of audiological findings and makes recommendations for interpreters/translators.
- Provides counseling to parents and students regarding audiological findings, hearing loss impact, and amplification benefits.
- Participates as an IEP team member in identifying communication needs, services and accommodations.
- Collaborates with speech-language pathologist and classroom teacher regarding audiological rehabilitation.
- Collaborates and consults with community audiologists and physicians regarding the audiologic and educational management of students with hearing loss.
- Analyzes classroom noises and acoustics and makes recommendations for improving the listening environment.
- Provides consultation and training on hearing, hearing loss, and other auditory disorders to school personnel, students and parents.
- Provides consultation in regards to selection, installation, maintenance, calibration and utilization of hearing devices including hearing aids, cochlear implants, bone conduction implants, and hearing assistive technology (e.g. personal FM systems) to students, parents, teachers and school personnel, and district personnel.
Knowledge and Abilities Required :
Knowledge of : Principles and practices of audiology; various kinds of hearing disorders, their causes and treatments; anatomy, physiology, etiology and basic sciences of communication disorders; child growth, development, community resources; current developments and trends in audiology; best practices and codes of ethics outlined by their professional organization, program policies and procedures, federal and state rules and regulations and Board of Education policies and procedures as related to the provision of services.
Ability to : Evaluate and interpret a variety of hearing disorders; prepare reports; maintain records and data; consult, instruct, interpret and implement federal and state regulations and operating policies and procedures as related to the provision of services; and deal effectively with students, parents, teachers, physicians, school staff, and other related service providers.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Education Requirement: Graduation from an accredited program, which at the time of graduation was approved by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology.
Experience Requirement: One (1) school year * of professional post-master's work experience providing audiological evaluations in a school setting, under the supervision of a professionally licensed Audiologist. *One (1) school year is defined as approximately 180 "teacher duty" days or approximately 38 weeks per year.
Substitutions Allowed: Possession of a Doctor of Audiology degree (Au.D.) from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required specialized experience.
License Requirements:
Applicants must possess a license issued by the Hawaii State Board of Speech Pathology and Audiology to practice as an Audiologist.
Applicants must possess a current, valid driver's license.
Quality of Experience:
Possession of the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for a position. The applicants overall experience must have been of such scope and level of responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that applicant has the ability to perform the duties of the position for which applicant is being considered.
Salary: The advertised salary is based on full-time employment and includes shortage and school year differentials, if applicable.Requirements: Applicants must meet all the requirements for the position they are seeking as of the date of the application, unless otherwise specified. Unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. Calculation of experience is based on full-time, 40-hour workweeks. Part-time experience is pro-rated. Example: Twelve months of experience at 20 hours/week is equivalent to six months of experience, not one year. Also, hours worked in excess of 40 hours/week will not be credited. Example: Twelve months of experience at 60 hours/week is equivalent to one year of experience, not one and a half years.
Temporary Assignment: Claims of Temporary Assignment (TA) experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements must be verified and attached to the application using one of the options below:
A copy of the applicants TA History Report or equivalent system-generated report;
A signed letter from the applicants supervisor that includes the applicants name, his/her TA job title, the TA start and end dates (from mm/yy to mm/yy), his/her specific TA duties performed, and either the TA hours worked per week or total TA hours worked; or,
Copies of the applicants signed SF-10 Forms.
