    JOB OVERVIEW:
    The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) will provides purposeful and meaningful goal-directed activities to evaluate and provide interventions for pupils identified by Pupil Services with IEPs; under the supervision of a certified OT

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations applicable to providing occupational therapy services
    • Knowledge of occupational therapy principles and practices
    • Knowledge of community agencies and referral resources
    • Ability to work effectively with children, adolescents, school staff, parents and agency representatives
    • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
    • Ability to speak effectively in public
    • Ability to read, interpret and explain policies, programs and reports
    • Ability to follow oral and written instruction with a minimum of direction
    • Ability to work independently and make decisions within the framework of established guidelines
    • Ability to analyze and determine appropriate methods and interpret and apply guidelines to accomplish goals
    • Ability to establish priorities and deadlines
    • Ability to formulate and implement educational plans
    • Ability to analyze and resolve problems with tact and diplomacy
    • Ability to plan, provide feedback and assess program
    • Ability to compile program reports
    • Ability to establish and maintain records

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Works under the direct supervision of an OT in collaboration with teachers, parents, paraprofessionals, and students on sensation, range of motion, muscle strength, perception/visual motor, gross and fine motor coordination, vocational, and daily living activities
    • Contributes to the evaluation process
    • Trains classroom staff
    • Assists with parent training
    • Determines appropriate materials and equipment, and shares that information with the assigned OT
    • Participates in community-based education
    • Assists in developing goals and objectives
    • Represents occupational therapist at case conferences
    • Adapts special teaching tools, techniques, equipment, and environment
    • Schedules therapy services
    • Writes reports and documents to be cosigned by Occupational Therapist, Registered
    • Serves as a medical liaison
    • Represents Community Consolidated School District 46 in a positive manner
    • Assists in development of health related plans
    • Perform other duties as assigned by administration
