JOB DESCRIPTION:
Primary Purpose: To assist in the provision of occupational therapy services to students per ARD/IEP, demonstrating sound clinical judgments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Provide direct occupational therapy services to students according to ARD committee recommendations and OT IEP goals and objectives.
- Assist OTR in data collection for evaluation as assigned.
- Complete required documentation such as progress reports, daily logs, mileage, etc. in a timely manner.
- Assist with ordering and inventory of equipment/supplies.
- Attend and participate in monthly departmental meetings.
- Assist with presentation of inservices and training of educational staff and parents as needed/requested.
- Attend and participate in ARD meetings of assigned students.
- Participate with students in the swimming program for special programs and in community outings.
- Attendance at work is an essential function.
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or designee.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Directly supervise the activities of the OT Aide when his/her services are needed to assist with treatment
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Experience:
- Two to three years of experience working as a COTA; pediatric experience preferred
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
- Graduated from an associate's degree or certificate program in occupational therapy that is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education
- Successful completion of a minimum of three months of supervised fieldwork experience
- Passes the occupational therapy assistant national entry-level certification examination administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy
- Current licensure in Texas as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Background in neurodevelopmental sensory integrative approaches to treatment
- Knowledge of school-based therapy delivery models
- Knowledge of assistive technology strategies/media and use/maintenance of adaptive equipment

Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over), sitting, standing, walking, climbing (stairs, playground equipment), kneeling, bending, stooping, visual acuity, speech, hearing, writing, pushing, pulling, reaching. Outside and inside, noise, exposure to communicable diseases, microwaves, slippery/uneven surfaces.
