JOB PURPOSE SUMMARY

The Occupational Therapist (OT) will work with students of all ages, addressing their unique physical and functional challenges, and helping them maximize their potential for learning and participation in the school environment. This position plays an important role in promoting the well-being and success of students with disabilities, contributing to their overall educational experience.

REQUIREMENTS

Education Level Details

Bachelor degree in Occupational Therapy (OT) or Physical Therapy (PT)

License / Certification Required

State licensure and certification as an Occupational Therapist or Physical Therapist.

Work Experience Required

Experience in pediatric therapy, particularly in a school setting, is preferred.

Other Skills and Abilities Required

A deep understanding of child development and special education practices.

Patience, empathy, and a passion for helping children reach their potential.

Organizational and time management skills for handling a diverse caseload.

EVALUATION

Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with provision of the Board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

GENERAL

Conducts comprehensive assessments of students to identify physical, sensory, and functional limitations.

Collaborates with teachers, parents, and other school staff to gather information on student needs.

Develops and maintains a thorough understanding of each student's abilities and challenges.

Develops individualized treatment plans and goals based on assessment findings.

Provides therapeutic interventions and exercises to improve students' motor skills, sensory processing, and functional abilities.

Modifies treatment plans as needed to address evolving needs and progress.

Works closely with teachers, special education teams, and other professionals to ensure the integration of therapy into the classroom environment.

Communicates with parents and caregivers, sharing progress, goals, and strategies for ongoing support at home.

Attends Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings and provides input and recommendations.

Maintains detailed and accurate records of assessments, treatment sessions, and progress.

Prepares reports and documentation required for IEPs and school records.

Keeps up-to-date on all necessary paperwork and compliance with state and federal regulations.

Manages and maintains therapy equipment and resources.

Makes recommendations for equipment procurement as necessary.

STUDENT GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

Showcases the academic performance of students.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT AND ORGANIZATION

Creates classroom environments conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.

Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct / student handbook.

Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

Participates in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.

Complies with the Colorado Department of Education, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.

Attends and participates in faculty meetings and serves on staff committees as required.

POLICY, REPORTS AND LAW

Complies with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.

Complies with all district and campus routines and regulations.

Performs other duties as assigned by the building principal and the Superintendent of Schools.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS

The physical demands, work environment factors and mental functions described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work primarily in a usual office or school environment including classrooms, cafeterias, hallways, playgrounds, gyms, and other spaces accessible to students. The Employee may be required to work from a remote location in the event of a district shut-down or other event.

Mental Functions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate, compare, analyze, coordinate, instruct, evaluate, and use interpersonal skills. Occasionally required to compile, copy, compute and negotiate.
