Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Plans, coordinates and implements specialized and inclusive programming for individuals with physical and cognitive disabilities including a wide range of programs, classes, fitness and athletic activities, and other special events.
- Develops programming and activity goals, policies and procedures for the adaptive population.
- Communicates with citizens and responds to their inquiries and concerns regarding adaptive programs, instructors, activities or facilities.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with the public and staff.
- Maintains appropriate records and documentation for participation in adaptive programs, activities and events.
- Monitors and evaluates program effectiveness based on established goals, policies and procedures.
- Performs lead-level and supervisory duties that include recruiting, training and organizing instructors and community volunteers to conduct or assist with adaptive programs, activities and events.
- Implements outreach efforts to build the program and attract participants.
- Prepares and monitors annual budgets for the Adaptive Recreation Division.
- Purchases supplies and equipment; negotiates with vendors; prepares vouchers and purchase orders.
- Provides transportation for participants by driving a van.
- Performs disaster drills; administers First Aid and performs CPR when needed.
- May provide one on one support and supervision for individuals requiring assistance during traditional recreation programs on an as needed basis.
- Performs other department functions as necessary, including but not limited to, clerical work, and work assignments at various Town recreational facilities.
- Provide excellent internal and external customer service.
Provides emergency care as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Qualifications:
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Education: Generally, a Bachelors Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Special Education, Adapted Physical Education, Recreation or related Human Service area
Experience: One (1) year of professional experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Licenses and/or Certifications Required:
- Valid Colorado Driver's License
- Certified Therapeautic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) Certification or eligibility to sit for the CTRS exam
- CPR and First Aid Training Certificate
- Disease Transmission Prevention Certificate
- Universal Precautions Training
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of principles of effective administration, to include planning, coordinating, evaluating, and supervising.
- Knowledge of the characteristics and needs of the target population.
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of short- to long-range recreational program planning.
- Knowledge of the principles of budget administration.
- Skill in both written and oral communications for effective expression and clarity.
- Skill in operating a multi-passenger vehicle safely.
- Skill in performing CPR and First Aid.
- Ability to respond to citizen complaints/concerns with considerable tact and courtesy.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions in accordance with established Town policies and procedures.
- Ability to use a variety of advisory data and information, such as equipment manuals, financial reports, handbooks, catalogs, and studies, user guides and manuals, state regulations, and Town policy manuals and Code of Ordinances.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, support staff, contracted personnel, volunteers, and other departments with which the position interacts.
- Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages; ability to utilize principles of fractions; ability to interpret graphs.
- Ability to perform coordinated movements involving placing and turning motions, and operating a computer terminal, exercise equipment, recreation equipment, cash register, and van.
- Ability to drive to and physically access various sites including fields, parks and Athletic facilities for programs and events.
Physical Demands:
- Occasional physical work lifting no more than 10 pounds
- Occasional lifting, carrying, walking and standing
- Occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stop, kneel, crouch or crawl
- Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate personal computer and office equipment
- Vision for reading, recording and interpreting information
- Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens

- Works primarily in a clean, comfortable environment
Equipment Used:
- Uses general modern office equipment, to include, keyboard, 10-key adding machines, and telephones
- This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment
