Performs a variety of duties including front office, scheduling, customer service, routine administrative functions, dispensing and recording durable medical equipment and physical therapy departmental operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Greets all patients, verifies appointment, provides directions and responds to inquiries.
- Answer incoming telephone calls; provides basic information, take messages, establish or confirm appointments. Reviews patient registration information for updates and/or changes to primary and secondary insurance coverage to ensure accuracy of billing; updates and amends electronic records as requested
- Enters information needed for scheduling in the electronic medical record, including primary clinic appointments for patient referrals received.
- Documents cancellations or changes in the department therapy schedule for all therapy services.
- Assists with fitting patients for Durable Medical Equipment (DME) as directed by provider.
- Provide patient education regarding use of the appropriate DME.
- Provide troubleshooting services to patients who have questions regarding their prescribed DME products.
- Responsible for managing DME and therapy department inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
- Obtains vendor information and quotes for equipment
- Ensure that all necessary documentation and authorization is obtained as it relates to payer requirements.
- Communicates with patients/families and the clinical team to promote positive working relationships.
- Adheres to departmental and organization rules and local, state and federal laws and regulations.
- Participates in departmental orientation, on the job training and quality assurance programs/initiatives
- Regularly participates in trainings and education activities to improve knowledge and skills.
- Serves as a liaison between departments, such as emergency room, Inpatient, Outpatient, PRC, Case Management and Social Services, and Specialty clinics.
- Prepares treatment space for patient by following prescribed procedures and protocols.
- Maintains and sterilizes equipment and supplies to treatment areas, positions equipment for therapist access and positions patient on equipment.
- Ensures operation of therapy equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instruction; troubleshooting malfunctions; and calling for repairs.
- Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- 1 year of previous general office reception experience, preferably in a Physical Therapy setting
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Current BLS certificate or ability to obtain with 30 days of hire
