The SLP Instructor works with students of varying abilities with disabilities and provides both individual and group support inside and outside of the classroom with the goal of promoting the retention, success and graduation of students with disabilities at D&E. The successful candidate will work closely with students, the Director of the Naylor Learning Center and faculty and staff across campus to: develop, monitor, evaluate and revise academic success plans for students with disabilities; coordinate academic advising; refer students to internal or external resources and services, assist in the instruction of Foundation courses and improvement of the assigned students academic skills development ; review disability documentation and provide services connected to test and note taking.
The SLP instructor must possess: a knowledge of the social, emotional and academic aspects of disability; a working knowledge of disability law; the ability to protect confidential information and exercise discretion while managing multiple responsibilities; strong interviewing, counseling, advising, and communication (written and oral) skills and the ability to work with a diverse student population. A completed master's degree is required by the above start date, in Counseling, Education, Special Education, Social Work, Psychology or a closely related field. Experience working with students with disabilities, case management, data reporting, Microsoft Office, and assistive technology are also preferred.
