Position Summary:
The Respiratory Therapist is a Non-Exempt position that reports to the Respiratory Market Director. This role assists respiratory therapists in preparing for and providing patient care. This role requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision, particularly in a stressful environment where appropriate action must be taken quickly. The essential functions of the position include delivering routine therapy as delegated by a therapist, responding to codes, and assisting with emergent situations by assessing patient conditions and providing the necessary treatment. The Respiratory Therapist also monitors, records, and communicates patient conditions and educates patients and their families about the patient's illness while providing information about community support groups and other resources. Additionally, the role involves monitoring, receiving, stocking, and distributing respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders, maintaining storage areas with required supply levels, and ensuring equipment is properly disassembled, cleaned, sterilized, and maintained, including performing preventative maintenance and calibrating machines. Non-essential functions include serving both internal co-workers and external customers, clients, patients, contractors, and vendors, and accessing or working with sensitive or confidential information. The position also requires an understanding of healthcare regulatory and compliance standards, such as HIPAA, and the ability to apply policies and procedures effectively. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Certified Respiratory Care Therapist
- Valid and Current Montana Board of Respiratory Care Certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required one month from hire/transfer date
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required six months from hire/transfer date
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required six months from hire/transfer date
