Job Title: Speech-Language Pathologist

Location: East Buchanan Secondary Level

Time: Part time 2 - 3 days a week

Reports to: Director of Special Services and Building Administrator(s)

Summary : The Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for providing direct therapies to students with speech and language impairments. Developing and implementing interventions, scheduling students and reporting progress. They are responsible for developing IEP goals, writing the current present level of students and communicating with Special Education teachers.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Abides by Missouri statutes, school board policies and regulations.
  • Upholds school rules and administrative regulations.
  • Development of pragmatic language skills focusing on building relationships between students at the High School level.
  • Serves as a resource to school staff and families in the development of a balanced program for communications and speech-language development.
  • Provides a therapeutic program to meet individual speech-language needs.
  • Assists and guides teachers/parents in observing, describing, and referring suspected and/or identified speech-language problems.
  • Provides screening to specified grade levels at regular intervals to identify speech and/or language impaired children.
  • Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of articulation, voice, fluency, and language.
  • Attends meetings and performs duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
  • Maintains a cooperative relationship with staff, students, and community.
  • Provides appropriate individualized educational programs (IEPs) for speech-language impaired children.
  • Collaborates with school staff and parents to implement therapy strategies for the childs daily activities.
  • Provides in-service education and serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff on topics concerning speech-language disabilities.
  • Keep thorough ongoing records for the students receiving speech-language therapy.
  • Maintains lists of students referred, screened, and eligible for service as well as a directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialist and related services.
  • Compiles case history data on those students in speech-language therapy and shares the pertinent information with school staff.
  • Assumes primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed materials, equipment, and supplies.
  • Assimilates all speech-language evaluation information, interprets the evaluation results and writes a cohesive report which discusses all speech-language needs of the student.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality.
  • Maintains records regarding individual student progress toward IEP goals and objectives, services and accommodations provided, parent contacts, notices and other documentation as required by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) regulations, the Director of Special Services or the school principal.
  • Participates in student eligibility evaluations and reevaluations.
  • Initiates communication with parents of students with disabilities on a regular basis.
  • Uses technology effectively to implement instruction and to manage documentation requirements.
  • Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's/Masters Degree

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Preferred Missouri Board of Healing Arts SLP License and/or DESE SLP certificate.

Terms of Employment:
Current contract year is 180 days. This position would be a negotiated amount of time with the candidate up to half time employment. Compensation will be based on years of experience and education and paid proportionally for percentage of time worked from the certified salary schedule.
