The Certified Respiratory Therapist participates in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with pulmonary disorders. Responsible for the management of Life Support systems and responding to medical emergencies within the hospital. The CRT may perform all tasks included in their license practice act within department guidelines and policies. The position relies on education and entry-level training to complete responsibilities. The CRT must function with limited supervision, relying on their education and the guidance of the physician and supervisory staff.

Compliance/Quality
Checks patient record for orders prior to each treatment.
Thoroughly explains to each patient to ensure cooperation and compliance.
Demonstrates an understanding of all aspects of ventilator management.
Selects interventions appropriate to age and growth level when planning care.
Demonstrates a working knowledge of the equipment and oxygen devices used in the delivery of Respiratory Care.
Adheres to hospital policy on the usage of Paid Time Off and Extended Illness Time.
Reports to work on time, and if necessary, reports tardiness to appropriate person.
Employee shall conform to regulatory, customer and organizational requirements.
Utilizes Personal Protective Equipment (PEP) in the appropriate manner for optimal personal protection.
Adheres to infection control practices.
Has completed required TB skin test's).
Patient Care Delivery
Performs patient assessment and implements care plan to include routine and special procedures to meet therapeutic objectives.
Checks of ventilator orders prior to making ventilator changes.
Administers all therapy according to department policy and procedure by performing checks as required by department and documenting checks according to P&P as well as analyzing oxygen concentration and monitoring cuff pressure as required.
Measures ventilator parameters daily on the day shift and documents on the ventilator flow sheet.
Provides patient assessment based on clinical data.
Performs a complete patient assessment at the beginning of each shift and documents accordingly.
Implements care plan to meet therapeutic objectives.
Performs EKG's, completes EKG requisitions and tracings according to departmental P&P.

Suggest ways of improving the provision of patient care through the appropriate channels.

Demonstrates sensitivity to the comfort of all customers/guests and responds appropriately to their needs utilizing cultural and religious sensitivity.
When requested, adjusts personal schedule to meet department/unit needs.

Education - Associates Degree or equivalent ( 10 Years experience as licensed therapist substituted for Associates Degree)
Training - Graduate of AMA approved program
Special Skills -Successful completion of the National Certification exam administered by the NBRC.
