- Conduct evaluations and design effective treatment plans for disabled students as defined by WAC 392-172A and properly identified according to district procedures.
- Assist in the identification of students in need of physical therapy through screening and evaluations.
- Treat students with disorders to relieve pain, develop and restore function, and maintain maximum performance.
- Serve as a cooperative member of a multi-disciplinary team in designing and implementing effective treatment programs as determined by the student's individual educational plan.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate IEP's that focus on assessment data and evaluated student progress using a data based decision-making model.
- Relate the educational significance of therapy treatments toward assisting in the student's fullest potential and educational growth.
- Plan and implement a physical therapy program for identified children to achieve necessary goals within the educational setting.
- Provide consultation and advisory services to the child's family, health care agencies, and community organizations as needed.
- Consult with the student's physician concerning the student's physical therapy program.
- Consult, instruct, and monitor the student, family, and other educational staff in physical therapy procedures as needed.
- Maintain appropriate written records and reports for each child served and/or assessed.
- Willing and physically capable of kneeling, bending, and working or sitting on the floor with students; running after students based on student needs.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Heavier lifting will utilize a two-person lift or assistive devices.
- Participate in ordering new supplies, manage the equipment, and adopt repairs as necessary for functional operation of said equipment.
- Participate in continuing education to ensure continued professional growth, awareness, and development.
- Maintain professional knowledge and expertise; attend, participate and implement district level program requirements of IDEA, NCLD, and Statewide Assessment requirements.
- Perform other job-related duties as requested from supervisor.
- Bachelor's degree with certification as a physical therapist from an accredited school of physical therapy.
- Registration or eligible for a certificate of registration issued upon recommendation of Washington State Examining Committee of Physical Therapists.
- Certified or eligible for Washington State certification as an educational staff associate endorsed for physical therapy.
- Related experience or a minimum of a pediatric affiliation with a strong interest in pediatrics is required.
- Additional education in physical therapy, theory, and methods in current usage with disabled children desirable.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the essential requirements within P.L. 94-142 and its application to the provision of compliant services for the disabled.
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with parents, teachers, and administrators in providing direct and indirect services to disabled students.
- Ability to express thoughts concisely and effectively.
- Ability to kneel, bend, and work or sit on the floor with students, as well as run after students if needed.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Demonstrates ability to communicate clearly in written or oral form.
- Flexible in learning new concepts, cooperates with others, and adapts to a variety of assignments and conditions.
- Enthusiastic and displays an overall optimism in motivating toward teaching and student learning.
- Assesses needs of students, prescribes and implements effective lessons to meet those needs through the use of appropriate and current instructional strategies based on best practices.
- Conducts self in a professional manner through interactions with students and adults, high expectations for student performance, is compassionate but firm when modeling appropriate behavior, and selects appropriate attire.
- Relates positively to students and adults from varying socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic background, learning styles, and various disabilities.
- Maintains a high level of professional expertise and emerging research related to this position.
