Applications are now being accepted for a full-time, twelve-month faculty member for the Occupational Therapy Department, School of Health Sciences, at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD. Prospective applicants should demonstrate expertise in adult rehabilitation, upper extremity rehabilitation and orthotics, productive aging, pathophysiology, and biomechanics. Research experience is preferred. Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor is dependent on qualifications and experience. Faculty rank and tenure status are commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities will include teaching in the candidate's area(s) of expertise in a manner consistent with the department's curriculum philosophy and design, service as assigned/appointed, advising students in professional and academic progression through the program, and mentoring students in faculty-led research and the OTD capstone project. The candidate is expected to fulfill the tripartite academic role of educator-scholar-citizen.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Earned doctoral degree awarded by an institution that is accredited by a USDE-recognized regional accrediting body
- Licensure or eligible for OT licensure in South Dakota
- The successful candidate will be required to engage in substantial research leading toward national significance in alignment with scholarly productivity guidelines
- Documented expertise in adult rehabilitation, upper extremity rehabilitation and have a strong background in biomechanics

The Department of Occupational Therapy offers an entry-level Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree. USD's Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree is nationally ranked among the top doctorate programs in occupational therapy.

The occupational therapy program resides within the Sanford Coyote Sports Center Space with dedicated classrooms and laboratory spaces, including a fully functioning apartment/Activities of Daily Living Suite, and spaces shared with physical therapy, including a nearly 1,500 square-foot Teaching and Research Laboratory, and small group collaborative learning spaces. Each space features state-of-the art technology.
