The Utah State Hospital is seeking a qualified Forensic/Adult Services Occupational Therapist to work in Provo, UT.
The shift is Monday through Friday-- No Weekends Required !
Nestled up against the beautiful Wasatch mountains of Utah County, this sprawling 300 acre campus is home to multiple units specializing in the mental healthcare of psychiatric patients. The Occupational Therapist in this role will specifically work with psychiatric patients within the Forensics program, to ensure proper therapeutic treatment is administered.
Occupational Therapy practitioners work with patients throughout the lifespan in identifying functional barriers associated with challenges of mental illness and support in development of improved capacities to manage symptoms through occupational engagement.
Staff use standardized assessments of cognition, sensory processing and modulation, and functional performance in addition to task analysis to inform treatment plans and provide social skills, sensory coping, and life skills training according to needs and level of functioning of the individual served.
Minimum Qualifications:- Required to be licensed as an Occupational Therapist in the State of Utah.
- A ble to describe evidenced based interventions and demonstrate skills to run groups and perform essential assessments in a mental health treatment setting
Preferred Qualifications:
experienced working with individuals with mental illness
experienced with or demonstrates ability to work with patients in the justice system
experienced with or demonstrates ability to work with adult or geriatric/medically compromised patients
able to give and receive feedback
able to attend to the needs of and collaborate with multiple treatment teams
able to prioritize needs and meet deadlines
able to share clinical understanding and ideas with individuals of varied educational backgrounds and/or cognitive capacities
able to maintain positive and professional relationships with Utah State Hospital staff
Example of Duties
Working closely with multidisciplinary teams
Providing individual and group skill training with appropriate documentation
Assessing the needs and barriers of the patients to ensure all OT needs are met
An opportunity to work closely with a multidisciplinary care team of psychiatrists, medical doctors, nurses, social workers, and others to ensure optimal patient care.
Evaluate patient needs and administer therapy to preserve and improve abilities for independent function, such as behavioral management skills, social skills, and activities of daily living, with intermittent focus on range of motion, strength, activity tolerance, coordination and mobility.
- Depending on area of assignment, a valid driver's license may be required.
- The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent climbing, lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds, crouching or crawling in restricted areas, defending oneself and/or others against physical attack.
- Risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., working around operating machines, working with contagious diseases or hazardous chemicals, etc.
