JOB TITLE: Occupational Therapist

JOB BRIEF:

To prevent or minimize the effects of disabilities in fine motor and perceptual motor skills, sensory integration functioning, self-care skills, and focusing and attention skills which may interfere with the student's educational program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Kansas Teaching License.

Degree from an accredited college or university.

All USD 383 employees must pass a background check.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administer O.T. evaluations to students referred through the special education referral and evaluation process to determine specific motor skill deficits.

Determine the qualification of evaluated students for receiving school occupational therapy services based on standardized and non-standardized O.T. testing, functional assessment in the classroom and school environment, teacher and parent interview, and professional assessment of student's specific needs related to his/her educational program.

For students who qualify for USD 383 O.T. services, formulate annual goals and short-term objectives for the Individual Education Plan (IEP). Do this with the student's school team and parents to integrate goals and objectives throughout the student's educational program.

Provide direct O.T. services to special education students who qualify for regular on-going skill remediation administered by the OTR to enhance functional performance in the classroom. Provide verbal and/or written instructions and programming to student's educational staff to enhance the carry-through of direct O.T. services into the student's educational program.

Provide consultative O.T. services to special education students who qualify for O.T. monitoring of functional performance in the classroom. Provide verbal and/or written instructions and programming to student's educational staff to enhance carry through of consultative O.T. services into the student's educational program.

Provide inclusionary and co-teaching O.T. services in the classroom and school environment to enhance the educational program of special education students with students in the general education program.

Make recommendations regarding the selection and use of adaptive equipment or environmental devices. Fabricate adaptations, when possible, demonstrate their functions, and leave written instructions for educational staff to use adaptations safely and effectively.

Attending evaluation and IEP meetings of students administered O.T. evaluations and/or students who are receiving O.T. services. Also attend parent conferences as requested.

Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation. These will include OT evaluation and re-evaluation reports, an annual OT IEP goals and short-term objectives record, and four 9-week reports during the school year to parents and special education staff.

Provide O.T-related in-services as requested by administrative or educational staff. Initiate O.T.-related in-service possibilities within the school district and within the community as it relates to the school district.

Be responsible for and supervise the O.T. paraprofessional, pre-O.T. university students, Level I or II O.T. Fieldwork students, and observers participating in the school district's O.T. Department program.

Do ordering of and maintain the O.T. equipment and supplies in good condition within the O.T. Department. Keep track of O.T. equipment in the schools and collect it at the end of the school year. Work with preschool staff and other school staff as needed in finding and ordering O.T.-type equipment and supplies.

May be a candidate to fulfill the role of department head for the OT/PT/APE Department. The Department head will conduct monthly OT/PT/APE meetings and attend monthly Special Education Department Head meetings.

Will attend other meetings as administratively requested or related to delivering O.T. services within the school district as time allows.

Performs other duties as assigned by the teacher or building administration.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT/SALARY:

Full time school year position.

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Special Services.

For the 2024-2025 school year, USD 383 will pay the full health insurance premium for employees (Option C) and short-term disability insurance. Value of contributions per year-$7,788.

11 Paid Sick Leave days and 2 Personal days.

RETIREMENT:

USD 383 makes monthly contributions to a 403(b)-retirement account for all certified and eligible employees.

KPERS (Kansas Public Employees Retirement System): 6% monthly staff contribution. Vested after five years.

TECHNOLOGY:

District provided devices - iPad, laptop and/or desktop for certified staff.

PAID COLLABORATION TIME.

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board of Education's policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
