- SUMMARY: The Physical Therapy (PT) Manager position is a licensed physical therapist responsible for leadership and management of the Physical Therapy Department, including supervision of assigned staff and provides direct physical therapy care to patients. The PT Manager must be proficient in the examination, assessment, and treatment of physical deficiencies through the use of special exercise, manual therapy, movements, hydrotherapy, and physical modalities. The goal is to assist persons who are experiencing loss of various physical functions to maximize independence and improve mobility, self-care, and other functional skills necessary for daily living, sports and work-related activities. The PT Manager works closely with physical therapy staff, department directors, physicians, nursing staff, administrative staff, and patients and their families. The PT Manager will develop a high-performing team of professionals which consistently delivers growth and extraordinary patient outcomes in a person-centered environment.
- ESSENTIAL DUTIES and MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Manages the rehabilitation program for the facility or designated facilities.
- Manages rehab staffing levels by completing evaluations and assessments for patients care levels to meet clinical and operational needs by working with qualified staff.
- Develop individualized treatment plans of care and treat patients through all phases of physical therapy with an emphasis towards compassionate, comprehensive and evidenced-based approaches to restore patients to full functionality, where possible.
- Administer and supervise treatment sessions, ensuring patients receive appropriate care and follow treatment protocols, utilizing traditional PT and hydrotherapy.
- Complete daily patient care, progress and discharge notes.
- Directs and supervises the activities performed by the Physical Therapy Department staff, including: Physical Therapists, Physical Therapy Assistants, billing and administrative staff, etc.
- Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency of Physical Therapy modalities and utilizes this skill set.
- Must be able to perform Lifting and Transferring techniques as trained and pass performance testing. The employee may occasionally lift and/or push and pull up to 100 lbs. Lifting may require floor to waist, waist to shoulder, or shoulder to overhead movement.
- Driving of agency vehicles for agency business as assigned and as necessary.

- Able to regularly sit, walk, stand, climb up and down stairs, and sit at a computer for occasional periods of time and repeat the same hand, arm, or finger motion many times (typing, data entry).
- The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach forward with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Communicate through speech with staff and patients in both quiet and noisy environments.
- Operate a personal computer and related software.
- Tolerate various levels of stress and meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
- Demonstrate specific vision abilities which include close, distance, and depth perception and are able to read handwritten or typed material, and are able to adjust focus.
- Work and concentrate in both noisy and quiet environments.
- Squat, stoop, kneel, and reach above the head. Forward motion will occasionally be required.
- Work inside the building a majority of the time.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain clinical logs and checklists necessary for compliance.
- Implement physicians' orders and ensure the physicians' orders are followed by staff.
- Ensures complete orientation to the department and facility and ongoing training of the PT staff including departmental specifics and work injury prevention.
- Actively participates in the recruitment, hiring and orientation of new staff. Models appropriate professional behavior and acts as a mentor to team members.
- Reviews documentation practices for clarity, conciseness, and consistency with patient outcome goals.
- Ensures ongoing communication with patients and team members in order to keep them informed of key issues and program development opportunities, and to maintain strong patient relations at all times.
- Performs an appropriate assessment and evaluation on each patient, as related to the therapy requested and provided and reassessments. This includes neonate, pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients and the general patient population.
- Observes and evaluates treatment effects. Recommends changes to physicians, if needed.
- Provide continuous communication with referring physicians and other referral sources.
- Responsible for remaining current in Physical Therapy literature, trends and new developments and keeping staff updated through in-service trainings, memos, and regular PT Department meetings
- Works with billing staff to ensure accuracy and reconciliation of billing data in accordance with billing deadlines.
- Review and monitor revenue and expenses and initiate appropriate action plans to ensure budget goals are met or exceeded.
- Manages productivity standards to meet clinical and operational goals.
- Reviews the medical records for federal and state requirements and conditions of participation for Medicare, Medicaid and other alternative payment modes are being met.
- Ensures that a preventative maintenance program is in place for the equipment utilized within the department and reports any problems to the appropriate personnel.
- Cultivate relationships with patients and the community
- Maintain licensure for Physical Therapist, CPR/First Aid and other courses as required.
- Support the development of team members to ensure high performance. This includes feeling comfortable in providing critical feedback when necessary and annual performance evaluations.
- Maintain the physical facility and/or job site, both interior and exterior, in a clean, safe and orderly fashion.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of information learned regarding patients, individuals in service, program issues and staff information.
- Work flexible schedules or within various environments as agency and supervisor deems necessary. Staff attendance and promptness to assigned shifts is essential. The responsibilities of this position may require staff to be able to work irregular, extended, and/or be available for on-call work hours, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, etc.
- Represent the agency in the represented communities through positive public relations and active involvement in civic functions.
- Advise supervisor of concerns and problems that arise within the agency.
- Follow agency procedures when purchasing items on behalf of the agency.
- Follow agency policies and procedures in carrying out duties.
- Safeguard all agency funds and property.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Community Supports Director or the CEO or their designee.
- Other reasonable duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
MINIMUM/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum: This position requires a Graduate of an accredited school of physical therapy in the United States. The PT Manager position requires passing the National Physical Therapy Exam (NPTE) and current Colorado licensure for physical therapy. Four years of clinical experience with one year of management experience preferred.
Preferred: Bilingual skills (English/Spanish).

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Working conditions normally involve inside environments. This position requires working irregular or extended work hours. The employee is directly responsible for the safety and well-being of patients.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Able to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and memos. Able to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, manuals, or governmental regulations. Able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, managers, employees, individuals, parents, and/or the general public is required.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Able to apply basic mathematical skills to include concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Able to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY: Able to deal with problems involving a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations. Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
III: SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Physical Therapy Manager is responsible for direct supervision of assigned staff and ensuring that treatment plans and protocols are being followed and ensuring patients receive appropriate care. The Community Supports Director provides supervision of this position. In general, this position requires that the individual work independently approximately 95% of the time.

Able to work with others, with system issues, and able to work within designated time frames. Patience in dealing with staff, individuals in service, and parents. Able to develop effective working relationships with staff, individuals in service, and the community. Good communication skills and being able to work with others as a team is a must. Able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Able to perform duties in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
V: CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must have a valid Physical Therapy license from the state of Colorado or acceptable compact state.
