Job Description:Springfield Technical Community College seeks applicants for the part time position of Clinical Laboratory Assistant to the Physical Therapist Assistant Program. This Clinical Laboratory Assistant will report to the Department Chair of the Physical Therapist Assistant program and the Dean of the School of Health and Patient Simulation (SHPS). The Clinical Laboratory Assistant will implement assistive methods in practices and processes which maximize personnel and supportive resources in the achievement of School of Health and Patients Simulation goals.
SAMPLE OF DUTIES: Under the supervision of the Department Chair of Physical Therapist Assistant Program and the Dean of School of Health and Patient Simulation, the Clinical Laboratory Assistant will demonstrate excellence in the following areas:
Provide support, guidance and instruction to student while in the laboratory setting and provide the student with relevant and timely feedback concerning all work submitted to the primary instructor.Understand and supports the College's mission and supports the educational and informational needs of the SHPS students.Interact professionally with students.Understands, values and acts according to the wide-range of needs are found in a diverse student population appreciating the expectations of the physical therapist assistant and Allied Health students.Uphold the policies and regulations of the School of Health and patient Simulation.Submit promptly and in proper form reports and requests of the Department Chair and the Dean of the School of Health and Patient Simulation.Attend all departmental, school and college meetings as required.Mentor and role model to students' professional, ethical and competent physical therapy practice.Participate in departmental meetings and provide written reports as needed.Assist primary PTA instructor in the evaluation of student performance through clinical competencies and practical's.Participate in campus rehab clinic providing ambulatory care to community patients while instructing/supervising students.Supervise open lab times.Maintain confidentiality regarding students and colleagues.Maintain safety of laboratory equipment and classroom space.Clean, prepare, assemble, and disassemble all equipment and supplies for laboratory exercises for students. Inventory all replenishment supplies.Maintain and organize all laboratory equipment and supplies.Abide by the regulations set out in the Massachusetts Community College Council collective bargaining agreement.Ensures utilization and proper use of learning equipment and materials.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Actively participate in professional organizations/initiatives of the School of Health and Patient simulation.Maintain and update professional and clinical competencies and certifications.
Requirements:Currently Massachusetts Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant in good standing with at least two (2) years of clinical experience.Evidence of contemporary physical therapy practice in an ambulatory or inpatient practice setting.Licensed in the state of MA as a PT or PTA.General knowledge of accreditation guidelines for Physical Therapists Assistant education as outlined by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds regularly.Lift 75 pounds infrequently.Be able to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people (Students, faculty and patients/clients).Have strong subject knowledge in physical agents, Data collection (with regard to physical therapy-goniometry, vitals, etc.) and therapeutic exercise.
