Position Responsibilities:
The Outreach Educational Audiologist is responsible for serving deaf and hard-of-hearing students statewide via in-person service and remote/tele-service. Duties include performing comprehensive audiological evaluations, writing professional reports, explaining evaluation results, providing audiological counseling for students and families, consulting with district and agency staff, performing staff in-service and education, attending Individualized Educational Program (IEP) and 504 planning meetings, and managing amplification and FM systems across districts.
This position is also responsible for providing direct, culturally competent communication and instruction with students in their preferred language/modality and working collaboratively across transdisciplinary teams to support student success. The Outreach Educational Audiologist is a resource for students, staff, outside providers, and parents, often serving as a liaison between the medical and educational communities.
- Provides professional consultation services for students attending schools throughout the state, requiring both travel and remote work.
- Organize, schedule, and implement evaluations and service minute visits with various school districts simultaneously.
- Conducts audiologic assessments including, but not limited to hearing tests, functional listening evaluations, and utilizing questionnaires, to further investigate, diagnose, and refer students pertaining to their hearing needs.
- Writes comprehensive reports based on service provided, ensuring student history, test results, and recommendations are outlined in a professional manner with language appropriate for parents and school personnel.
- Conducts in-person and/or virtual visits to complete assessments, discuss needs and evaluation findings, and fulfill related service minutes.
- Consults with school personnel and provides consultation for the development and implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs)/504 plans, ensuring recommended hearing related accommodations are in place and audiology minutes are reflected appropriately.
- Assists with management of amplification devices and FM systems while collaborating with the clinical audiologist(s) to ensure student use and proper functionality.
- Collaborates with CDHY team members and school personnel to provide comprehensive support and professional development services.
- Coordinates with outside agencies and organizations for additional resources as needed.
- Supports school personnel to understand the potential educational impact and considerations related to an individuals hearing difference and assists them in addressing these in the classroom.
- Advocates for students with hearing needs, ensuring they are receiving appropriate accommodations and in a language rich environment where they can thrive academically and socially.
- Attends Outreach meetings and statewide events.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- WA State ESA School Audiologist certification.
- Masters degree or higher in Audiology.
- Knowledge of principles, techniques, and methods of audiology in the educational environment.
- Must have an operating knowledge of a variety of audiometric instruments and related materials.
- Ability to use technology effectively.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, school staff, parents, and school district personnel using ASL, an interpreter, and/or written English.
- Knowledge of the unique educational needs of deaf and hard-of-hearing students including knowledge of ASL, Deaf culture and community.
- Ability to be organized and manage multiple needs simultaneously, while providing and keeping appropriate documentation.
- Experience working with students including implementing IEPs, collaborating with an educational team, maintaining records, and preparing reports and correspondence.
- Ability to use professional judgment and carry out all assigned responsibilities with minimal supervision while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism of communication.
- Willingness and ability to frequently travel (ESTIMATED 70-80 %)

Salary and Benefit Information:
Certificated employees are paid in accordance with the Vancouver Public Schools Salary scale.
Certificated staff receive 12-month pro-rated salary and are designated as overtime-exempt employees.
This position is represented by the Washington Public Employees Association (WPEA).
