Position Information: The Golf Recreation Specialist plans, organizes, schedules and conducts activities and programs with Mint Valley Golf Course and within the community by coordinating part-time staff, locating instructors and volunteers, soliciting sponsorships and donations, coordinating programs, assist with the budget and inventory to ensure an exceptional golf experience for our clientele.

  • Ensures guest check-in and collects fees at the Pro Shop counter.
  • Advises golfers of schedules of play and waiting times, course conditions, and course rules.
  • Responsible for training and providing work assignments to part-time staff to ensure Pro Shop needs are met. Re-train when needed and monitor employee activities.
  • Responsible for keeping files and resources updated and organized in the Pro Shop.
  • Assists with merchandise and inventory, displays, control, promotion, and sales of merchandise.
  • Maintain financial records including revenue generated, operational costs and budgets and work closely with the Operations Manager to ensure accuracy.
  • Maintain attendance, activity, supply, inventory and equipment records for the Pro Shop and the Restaurant.
  • Assists with accounting for fees collected and with keeping clerical records.
  • Coordinate with vendors for the purchase of products for the Pro Shop and the Restaurant.
  • Monitors day-to-day operations and events happening at the course while gathering all required materials and supplies needed to keep the course running smoothly.
  • Serves as a liaison between the course and public/private agencies, schools, citizen groups, and individuals for community wide events.
  • Plans, coordinates, organizes and executes golf events at the course and community wide events that may take place at the course.
  • Ensures that patrons have a safe and enjoyable golf experience by providing excellent customer service to the patrons.
  • Maintain public and media relations and marketing programs by creating flyers and brochures. Prepare public announcements via press releases, website and social media posts.
  • Perform inventory count of supplies and equipment and report to the manager.
  • May perform basic cleaning duties daily, ensuring compliance with standard, health and sanitary requirements.
  • Assists the Golf Operations Manager as needed.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Bachelors degree in Recreation, Golf, Physical Education, Sports Management, Business Management, Accounting or a related field AND 1-2 years of recreation program experience and/or business management experience OR a combination of education, training and experience which would provide the required skills, knowledge and ability to perform the job as determined by the department.
  • Valid Drivers License
  • First Aid/CPR certification or obtain within ninety (90) calendar days.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Knowledge of golf play, rules and etiquette conducive to acceptable play.
  • Knowledge of proper golf course conditions.
  • Knowledge of the methods and techniques for cashiering, inventory management and creating reports.
  • Working knowledge of recreational activities and community dynamics, marketing practices and principles.
  • Ability to enforce rules and regulations firmly and professionally.
  • Ability to train staff effectively and monitor performance.
  • Ability to follow directives in an effective and timely manner.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Practice safe work habits.
  • Ability to evaluate the overall effectiveness of programs.
  • Communicate effectively both written and verbal in English.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement, flexibility, creativity and sensitivity in an ever changing environment.
  • Deal courteously and tactfully with the public and other city employees.
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
