Position Overview
We are seeking a Physical Therapist (PT), Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA), or Certified Exercise Physiologist to administer walking and balance-based interventions to people with multiple sclerosis (PwMS) participating in a clinical trial aimed at improving mobility and balance. Sessions consist of participants ambulating on a treadmill for up to 40 minutes while the research assistant monitors heart rate and administers reactive balance challenges. Candidates would operate the treadmill, assist the participant in donning the fall arrest harness and gait monitoring devices, and monitor/adapt the training parameters throughout the session as necessary. The ideal candidate will have experience working with individuals with neurological conditions, specifically MS. This is a part-time role offering flexibility and an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in the field of MS and rehabilitation.
Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct Walking-Based Training Sessions: Lead structured training sessions focusing on walking and reactive balance for PwMS. Sessions will vary in intensity and duration based on patient needs and trial protocol, and will last approximately 1 hour each. Candidates will monitor the participant and offer motivation, encouragement, and support during each session.
Adapt Training Sessions: Based on tolerance and progress, adapt the walking program as appropriate to meet the study parameters.
Monitor Progress: Track and document participant progress and any changes in their walking or mobility. Regularly report on improvements or challenges. Documentation will occur via an online database, and is minimal compared to traditional PT documentation.
Collaborate with Clinical Trial Team: Work closely with researchers, principal investigators, and other members of the clinical trial team to ensure alignment with study objectives and adherence to study protocols.
Ensure Safety and Compliance: Ensure the safety and well-being of participants throughout each session, adhering to all clinical trial protocols and healthcare regulations. Respond to any medical emergencies or issues as needed.
