DESCRIPTION
The Educational Audiologist will focus their practice on supporting students with hearing difficulties in an educational setting by evaluating the students hearing, listening, and auditory processing deficits that can affect their academic success, communication abilities and psychosocial well-being.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide complete audiological assessment and services for all children in with identified hearing losses.
- Provide audiological follow-up/re-evaluation for students with suspected hearing losses.
- Participate in and use the Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing programs staff methodologies and approaches.
- Counsel with parents regarding audiometric evaluations, care and use of hearing aids and auditory training strategies.
- Participate in ensuring that pupils have full educational opportunity regardless of the district or residence.
- Assist in providing trainings for staff, associated agencies and parents regarding issues related to student needs: i.e. cochlear implant, care of aids, etc.
- Attend, participate in and provide appropriate goals & objectives for individual students Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) meetings.
- Perform other duties assigned by supervisor.
- Collaborates and consults with local district personnel regarding students who demonstrate auditory based communication difficulties.
- Collaborates and consults with community audiologists and physicians regarding the audiologic and educational management of students with hearing loss.
- Provide consultation in regard to the selection, purchase, installation, maintenance, calibration checking and utilization of audiologic equipment.
- Provide training about hearing, hearing loss, and other auditory disorders for school personnel, students, and parents to facilitate a better understanding of the impact of auditory impairments on language, learning, literacy, and social development.
- Perform duties and responsibilities with a high degree of professional integrity.
- Demonstrate the ability to keep abreast of current trends and research in areas of audiology.
- Understand and have experience working with students with a speech and language delay due to a hearing impairment.
- Able to work with the many agencies and organizations working with students with hearing disabilities and their families.
- Able to present results of assessments and the interpretations clearly and with awareness of the impact on the student/family.
- Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter, as required by the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Appropriate California credential(s) or equivalent as specified by law which should include a valid Masters Degree in Audiology and a Clinical Rehabilitative Services Credential in Audiology. A Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology is desired.
- Must possess a background in pediatric audiology or educational audiology.
- Specialized, in-depth knowledge in hearing aids, auditory training strategies, and current electro-acoustic instrumentation.
- At least three years or the equivalent of providing successful audiological services for Special Education programs for students from the infant level through high school.
- Successful experience writing goals and objectives related to audiological services for students Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Successful inter-agency work with California Childrens Services is desired.
- Appearance, grooming, and personality which establish a desirable model. Better than average recommendation from professionals who have observed personal characteristics, scholastic attainment, and classroom performance. Must be able to establish good working relationshiops with other professionals.
SALARY AND TERMS OF SERVICE:
The salary range for the Educational Audiologist is $100,00 to $135,650 (14) steps, 204 working days per year, eight (8) hours per day. $1,500 Additional compensation for Certificate of Clinical Competence. $2,500 Additional compensation for Doctorate Degree. Placement on the salary schedule is determined by number of years of experience. Additional days, evenings/weekends as needed to perform related job duties and responsibilities. Position to be renewed annually contingent upon availability of program funds. Holidays, sick leave and vacation benefits. Prepaid family dental, medical, and vision insurance, prepaid life insurance plan for employee only, prorated according to number of hours worked.

A screening committee will evaluate each application, personal resume, and other letters of reference. Interviews will be scheduled for qualified applicants. If after interviews suitable applicants are not found, the search will continue.
