Job Description Summary The Senior Physical Therapist II builds on the experiences gained as a Senior I therapist, and promotes independent, continued professional development. Job Description The Senior Physical Therapist II: In addition to performing all of the responsibilities of a Physical Therapist; Leads the production and dissemination of evidence-based practice at the organizational, state, or national level. Partners with leaders in the organization to establish practice priorities and to drive program development. Disseminates information and contributes when regulatory changes occur. Produces and/or performs professional presentations within the organization and/or in the profession. Provides mentoring on practice and documentation for staff and students, aligning with organizational needs, while pursuing advanced mentoring training through internal or specialized programs. Contributes to performance management evaluations of Senior Physical Therapists I. Leads/coordinates operations improvement activities impacting his/her work area and/or patient population. Participates in professional state, national, or local organizations through holding office or board membership and disseminating information at the department or organizational level. Collaborates with key contacts, driving innovation both clinically and at the research level. Acts as an extender of practice leaders to implement changes in practice. Reporting Relationships Reports directly to assigned Clinical Manager or Therapy Manager. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required Graduated from an accredited program. Licensed to practice in the State of Illinois. Current CPR Certification required. Recent external validation of clinical excellence/expertise as demonstrated with board or advanced certification in clinical area of expertise, advanced degree beyond entry-level clinical degree, significant contributions to a peer reviewed manuscript, academic appointment, or commensurate achievement. Minimum 3 years of clinical experience required; 7 years clinical experience preferred. Maintains a clinical role of at least 0.4 FTE; and at least 0.5 FTE overall in the organization. Outstanding communication skills, with demonstrated ability to partner with physicians, patients and families in providing therapy and exchanging patient progress/condition information and to assign duties and orient/train subordinate professional, technical and support personnel. Proven in-depth conceptual knowledge in physical therapy. Ability to solve complex problems, demonstrating excellent critical thinking skills. Proven commitment to the profession of physical therapy. Demonstrates clinical expertise in a particular area to act as a content expert related to research and practice standards. Demonstrates leadership in activities that contribute to the advancement of the unit/department/profession. Views education as central part of role and integrates into daily routines. Peer development focuses on elevating the standard of practice as a whole. Skillfully negotiates conflict to promote collaboration. Challenges and shapes the system to maximize the benefits for patient care. Ability to transfer and position patients. Working Conditions Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature. Some exposure to infectious diseases when working with patients. May include exposure to community, home, work, school and off-site clinic settings. May include Saturday and Sunday rotation work. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds occasionally, to transfer and position patients.
