Job Description
A community services organization in New York City is looking to add a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT) to join their team at one of their Bronx located schools. In this role, the Occupational Therapist (OT) will be responsible for assessing student's motor skills and developing & implementing goals designed to enhance the student's learning potential.
About the Opportunity:
- Start Date: ASAP
- Assignment Length: Ongoing
- Setting: School-based
- Hours: 8am to 2:30pm
- Patient Population: Pediatric IDD
- Patient Volume: 10 sessions per day
Responsibilities:
The Occupational Therapist (OT) will:
- Make observations during preliminary screening of new students, and/or ongoing evaluations of students enrolled in the school
- Write a full description of the child's performance and behavior during evaluation referencing sensory processing, perceptual skills and/or deficits
- Make suggestions for approaches and activities that might enhance the student's abilities
- Take part in developing staff development and parent workshop opportunities around the development of gross motor, fine motor, and perceptual skills, and related underlying sensory and motor functions
- Develop a series of developmentally-graded activities based on evaluation, designed to improve sensory processing, fine and gross motor skills, and perceptual skills
- Carry out medical prescriptions for OT
- Maintain mandated documentation of treatment and progress (eg, individual treatment session and quarterly progress notes, Related Service Attendance, etc.)
- Submit a written report of the progress of the children at the end of each school year
- Make recommendations for IEP goals and participate as required in IEP conferences
- Maintain OT equipment and supplies, and recommend ordering them as required by IEP mandates or needed clinically
- Perform other duties, as needed
Qualifications:
- 1+ year of experience working with the Pediatric population
- Bachelor's and/or Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy
- NYS Occupational Therapist (OT) license
- Solid assessment, clinical, and documentation skills
- Patient oriented
- Great interpersonal skills
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Strong attention to detail
- Highly organized
