Position Overview
- The School Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and providing therapeutic services to students with speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders. The SLP works collaboratively with educators, families, and other professionals to support students' communication needs and promote academic success in accordance with Connecticut state and federal regulations.
Required Certifications & Qualifications
Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited institution.
Connecticut State Department of Education certification as a Speech and Language Pathologist (endorsement 061).
Preferred Qualifications
Current Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) preferred.
Experience working with school-aged children in an educational setting.
Knowledge of special education laws and procedures.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Essential Performance Responsibilities
Assessment & Evaluation
Conduct comprehensive speech, language, and communication assessments for referred students.
Interpret assessment results and provide written reports in compliance with state and district guidelines.
Participate in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans.
Intervention & Therapy
Design and implement evidence-based therapy plans tailored to students' individual needs.
Provide direct and consultative speech and language services in individual, small group, or classroom settings.
Monitor and document student progress, adjusting interventions as necessary.
Implements assistive technology plans
Collaboration & Consultation
Collaborate with teachers, special educators, counselors, administrators, and families to integrate speech and language goals into the classroom environment.
Provide training and resources to staff and families regarding speech and language development and strategies.
Compliance & Documentation
Maintain accurate and timely records of evaluations, therapy sessions, and progress reports.
Ensure compliance with IDEA, Section 504, and Connecticut State Department of Education regulations.
Attend and contribute to Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meetings and other relevant school meetings.
Provides consultation on the use of assistive technology to staff and parents
Professional Development
Stay current with best practices, research, and state/federal regulations related to speech and language pathology.
Participate in professional development opportunities and maintain appropriate licensure and certification.

Refer to the collective bargaining unit agreement between the Watertown Educators Association and the Watertown Board of Education
