Job Summary:
This professional clinical position is responsible for conducting brief clinical interventions focused on preparing a client for engagement in Substance Use Disorders (SUD) services. Treatment and counseling will be provided based upon the treatment plan developed by the SUD multidisciplinary treatment team. This individual will work in partnership with the medical provider in the ED as well and in the inpatient and outpatient SUD programs to enhance screening, treatment and engagement within the SUD population. This professional will be a key member of the treatment team and its process.
Responsibilities:
- Provide SUD services for patients in the ED and SUD treatment setting, including but not limited to; screening, brief treatment, connection and referral to medication-assisted treatment and assistance with admission to applicable treatment services.
- Provide referral to clients for SUD resources.
- Complete comprehensive intake assessments, including mental status examination, psychosocial history, and administration of standardized screening instruments, and develop multi-axial diagnoses when necessary.
- Provide individual, group, and/or family psychotherapy when necessary.
- Provide clinical support and backup to other clinical staff as needed.
- Serve as primary counselor to assigned patients in the ED when referred for SUD screening.
- Actively participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and patient-related communication, including individualized treatment planning, case reviews, and discharge planning.
- With appropriate consents, work with families and collateral service providers to facilitate positive treatment outcomes.
- Contribute or take leadership role in staff meetings, case conferences, case presentations, and training activities.
- Complete all required treatment record documentation in a timely manner, in accordance with regulatory timeframes and hospital and departmental policies
- Perform all administrative duties required for patient scheduling and billing purposes or for regulatory compliance.
- May supervise students in fieldwork placements from graduate schools of social work or mental health counseling, as applicable.
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements:
Experience:
- Minimum of one (1) year experience providing mental health treatment
- Experience using one or more evidence based treatment approaches.
- Experience working with individuals with SUD
Education:
- Masters of Social Work from an accredited program
- Or Masters in Mental Health Counseling from an accredited program
- The equivalent of a 12 month full time clinical internship in a mental health setting.
Licenses / Certifications:
- Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW)
- Or Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW)
- Or Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)
- Or Mental Health Counselor with Limited Permit to practice for licensure
- Participate in regular continuing education on SUD
