Job Description

The role of the Respiratory Aide in the Respiratory Therapy Department is essential to the smooth and orderly operation of the department. The Aide ensures that respiratory therapy equipment is readily available so that therapists can quickly and efficiently care for our patients. The Aide must decontaminate, set up, test, and distribute reusable respiratory care equipment. The Aide is responsible for stocking, distributing, and monitoring par levels of disposable respiratory supplies. The Aide stores and distributes medical gas cylinders. The Aide also provides support by performing dispatch duties.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Cleaning and decontamination of respiratory equipment

Assembling respiratory equipment

Setup and testing of mechanical ventilators for proper performance

Distribution and retrieval of respiratory equipment and supplies

Monitors inventories of respiratory equipment and supplies in all storage areas

Monitors inventories of medical gases to ensure appropriate quantities and compliance with storage guidelines

Distribution and retrieval of medical gas cylinders

Accepts the delivery of rental equipment

Refers all rental equipment to Bio-Medical engineering

All other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

1. High School graduation or High School Equivalency Diploma, plus one year as a Nurse's Aide or related capacity; or,

2. Satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience.
