Speech and Lanaguage Pathologist (SLP) MISSION: "Chileda's mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals with cognitive and behavior challenges. Chileda's goal is to help students increase their appropriate social behaviors and develop independent living skills, through an enriched learning environment and individualized behavior programming. Chileda's population includes children and young adults with special needs including Autism, Traumatic Brain Injury, Attachment Challenges, related developmental delays, and intensive behavioral needs" SUMMARY: The Speech Language Pathologist helps students of Chileda who have communication, language, and speech problems. The Speech Language Pathologist will work to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, and swallowing disorders in students served at Chileda. This position works closely with other cross-functional departments within Chileda, to generalize speech treatment to the natural environment. REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology. Wisconsin License for Speech and Language Pathology or have obtained within one year of hire. Experience working with children and young adults with developmental disabilities is preferred. Must possess intermediate computer skills to learn and operate software programs. Ability to lead, take charge, solve problems, and give direction. Ability to take on responsibilities and new challenges. GENERAL HOURS OF DUTY: Full or part-time, Monday through Friday, during general school hours of 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM. JOB DUTIES: Prepare for and provide speech therapy sessions to students in either one-on-one or group settings. Create lesson plans for students. Prepare for and attend (when requested) 30-day, quarterly Individualized Education Program (IEP), and discharge meetings. Write IEP present levels, goals, and progress reports. Conduct assessments and compile assessment reports for determining eligibility and monitoring progress. Collaborate with the treatment team on quarterly and yearly treatment plans. Train and provide support to Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) by leading Augmentative Communications training. Track data on treatment plan and IEP objectives. Remain current on evidence-based practices. Work closely with other departments, including the behavior department, to provide continuity of communication supports across environments. Maintaining visual forms of communication for individual students, including low-tech and high-tech AAC systems. Oversee and provide guidance on visual support use. Making sure icons/visuals are accessible Teach staff how to work with symbol support software Maintain and replace communication tools throughout the facility.
