Job Summary and QualificationsPOSITION SUMMARY:
Evaluates and treats patients with the application of a wide variety of therapeutic techniques for rehabilitation of speech, language,cognitionand dysphagia.
POPULATION SERVED:
Core competencies will be assessed primarily on the following patient population(s) served: neuro, orthopedic, spine care, pulmonary including but not limited to: CVA/TIA, joint replacement/fracture repair, etc.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assessment:Performsfunctional assessments and re-assessments of patientsdemonstratingcompromises in areas of swallowing, language,speechor cognition.Extracts pertinent information from patients chart, nursing, patient,familyand other sources concerning swallowing or communication impairments.Gathers appropriate subjectiveand objective data in order to describe patient swallowing and communication assets and liabilities.
Plan of Care:Formulatesappropriate assessment/re-assessmentfor treatment plan of care and goals, which are individualized to the specific patient.
Treatment of Patients:Selectsand applies appropriate treatments in order to increase the swallowing and communication functional status of patients.
Re-assessment:Re-assesses patient per department policy; takesappropriate actionbased on re-assessment.
Documentation:Completesdocumentation on the same day that assessment/re-assessment or treatment wasrendered.
Interdisciplinary Interactions:Communicatesand collaborates with interdisciplinary teamregarding:patient status, discharge plans, equipment needs, recommendations,andotherpatientissues.

- Licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Servicesas Speech Pathologist
- BCLS

Knowledge ofSpeechTherapy principles and practices, general anatomy and physiology, diseases andpost surgicalconditions, body movements and functions, and medical terminology.
Bilingual in English and Spanish
Experience with Modified Barium Swallow Studies preferred.
