In an environment of continuous quality improvement, T he Respiratory Therapy Supervisor is responsible for daily clinical operations of respiratory therapy services for the System. Supports staff by being a resource, staffing when needed, providing education and training and interacting with physicians and other departments to improve patient care. Is responsible for safety and quality in all aspects of services. Ensures availability of necessary equipment and supplies for services. Is fiscally responsible by maintaining productivity and controlling other costs. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.

Job Functions:

  1. Oversees shift activities for respiratory clinical areas, to ensure equitable distribution of staff during each shift while maintaining productivity.
  2. Prepares shift schedules and staff assignments one month in advance of start of new schedule. Schedules self when necessary for coverage.
  3. Manages department projects and completes them on time.
  4. Development, implementation, and annual review of policies and procedures.
  5. ACHC manual preparation for all sites.
  6. Direction of staff meetings and huddles.
  7. Acts as a liaison between respiratory staff,physicians, nurses and other hospital staff
  8. Is a clinical resource for staff.
  9. Coordination of training and education. Oversees completion of mandatory staff education. Responsible for validation lab coordination.
  10. Equipment and supply management including evaluation, demonstration, repair, quotes, and rentals.
  11. Reviews billing and audits staff documentation for accuracy.
  12. Participates in IT projects to improve documentation and billing processes. Is a Meditech Super User.
  13. Monthly staff rounding and Stop Light Reports, dissemination of information and communication board updates. Employee satisfaction.
  14. Performs interviews and coordinates orientation.
  15. Safety and quality monitoring and reporting.
  16. Oversees employee relations issues to include hiring, coaching, disciplining and firing
  17. Performs all therapeutic and diagnostic procedures as set forth in the essential functions of the Respiratory Care Practitioner job description.
  18. Performs ABG draws, analysis, quality control, proficiency testing and ABG system maintenance.
  19. Has the authority and responsibility to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, discipline, direct, or recommend such actions by using independent judgment.
  20. Completes and conducts employee performance evaluations based on direct observation of their employees job performance.
  21. Granted authority to perform the supervisory duties and are held accountable for performing such duties.
  22. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
Qualifications

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist licensed by the Ohio Medical Board as a Respiratory Care Professional required.
  • 5 year prior experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
  • 2 years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • BLS required upon hire; ACLS, PALS, ACCS preferred.
  • Maintains compliance in RQI required.

Special Knowledge, Skills, Training:

  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of life support systems used by the respiratory department, diagnostic procedures, management training and QA procedures.
  • Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to deal tactfully and harmoniously with guests, physicians, administration and co-workers.
  • The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the cardiopulmonary/adjunct department.

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • ACLS within 1 year of employment required.
