Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant - Special Education

Primary Purpose: Provides direct or consultation services to assigned students within all assigned districts.

Qualifications: Holds a valid Indiana license as an Occupational Therapist Assistant.

Special Knowledge/Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills, excellent time management, organizational and decision-making skills, effective interpersonal skills and leadership ability, ability to accept supervision and perform responsibilities in an efficient and effective manner.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Under the guidance of the Occupational Therapist-Registered (OTR)

Works with the Case Conference Committee within assigned districts to develop, implement and/or evaluate student individual education plans.

Communicate with the Special Education and General Education teachers to ensure student needs are being met.

Provide direct one-to-one service to students in need of occupational therapy.

Provide training/professional development to classroom staff in the area of Occupational Therapy as it relates to student educational needs.

Adapt materials, curriculum and equipment to meet individual special needs.

Document all student and teacher contact regarding specific students.

Respond to requests for services in a timely manner.

Develop time schedules for approval by the OTR and/or County Director(s).

Attend in-services and training as required.

Adhere to all NEISEC policies and procedures.
