Position Type: Student Support Services/Speech Language Pathologist Date Posted: 5/27/2025 Location: HCS County Wide Date Available: 2025-26 SY Closing Date: 06/06/2025 County: Hancock County Schools HANCOCK COUNTY SCHOOLS NEW CUMBERLAND, WEST VIRGINIA POSITION: Substitute, Speech-Language Pathologist GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: Administers speech and hearing tests; evaluates testing results; organizes and gives therapy to those requiring it; plans and arranges for follow-up care with physicians, nurses, and local agencies; consults with teachers on procedures to be used in teaching with speech and/or hearing impairment; consults with parents to expedite therapy; prepares reports on all diagnostic evaluations and treatment; keeps records. REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education and the Principal of the school in which he/she is working QUALIFICATIONS; Education. Possession of a Master's Degree in Speech Therapy. Possession of a certificate of clinical competence in speech therapy as issued by the American speech and Hearing Association. Experience. Two years of experience in speech therapy; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. General. Considerable knowledge of speech therapy principles, practices, methods, diagnostic and treatment techniques and equipment; good knowledge of rehabilitation program goals and objectives in treatment and motivation of patients; good knowledge of possible hazards to patients during treatment. FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under directions, is responsible for speech and hearing therapy work of considerable difficulty, carrying out a therapy program for all schools in the district; and performs related work as required. The Speech Pathologist is responsible to the department of pupil services through the principal in the building in which he is working. implementing his/her program of study. fostering a classroom climate conducive to learning. utilizing instructional management systems which increase student learning and maximize time on task. monitoring and reporting student progress towards learning outcomes. maintaining and upgrading his/her professional skills and teaching techniques. promoting and maintaining positive pupil-teacher-parent relationships.
