Duties
Position Purpose:
Under the general supervision of the Special Education Coordinator, to provide therapies for students who exhibit special education needs in the areas of language, speech, voice, and fluency in order to help students' meet their educational goals, provides data and participates as a member of a multidisciplinary team to help students resolve such speech and language problems as interfere with their adjustments to school in order to maximize the students' learning experience.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
- Screens and evaluates children to identify those with speech/language disorders.
- Acts as a case manager for "speech-only" case study evaluations.
- Determines appropriate evaluation methods to address referral concerns.
- Administers and conducts diagnostic evaluations.
- Develops and manages the implementation of IEPs.
- Conducts and/or participates in Eligibility/IEP conferences.
- Works cooperatively with staff to accomplish students' IEP goals.
- Schedules times and notifies all participants of Eligibility/IEP conferences.
- Determines caseload and schedules children in individual or group therapy sessions as appropriate to the children's need and IEP.
- Develops appropriate therapy materials for school and/or home.
- Maintains appropriate data on students to document current levels of performance and other pertinent information.
- Monitors and reports on student progress.
- Collaborates with school staff in implementing strategies to promote student learning.
- Provides staff consultation on speech/language issues affecting student participation in the learning process.
- Consults with parents, teachers, and other appropriate staff regarding the student's performance in the classroom.
- Participates in staffing, parent-teacher conferences, teachers' meetings, school open houses, and/or other district meetings.
- Completes and submits all required paperwork and reports in a timely manner.
- Serves on assigned schools' MTSS problem-solving team.
- Supports and implements District policies and procedures, regulations, and administrative directives.
- Adheres to the ethical standards and codes of the profession and to the established rules, regulations, and laws governing special education.
- Maintains ethical communication and standards.
- Maintains ethical and professional assessment standards.
- Keeps appraised of current rules and regulations in the areas of special education and speech language pathology. Understands public laws which affect education process.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned.
Additional Duties:
- Provides assistance/training in behavior management techniques.
- Assists with methods of curriculum instruction, adaptions/modifications.
- Provides in-service as needs arise in assigned area.
- Attends or participates in professional growth opportunities.
- Participates in district committees as necessary and appropriate.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Special Education Director, Principal, and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Travel Requirements
- Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of principles and techniques of speech-language therapy, methods, and procedures for assessment and treatment of communication disorders (speech sound production and use, receptive and expressive language, fluency, voice, oral motor, etc).
- Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations regarding special education records, due process, service provision, and speech language pathology.
- Ability to write & implement Individual Education Plans (IEP's).
- Excellent communication and time management skills.
- Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff members.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, families, team members, and others.
Work Environment and Equipment:
- Works in standard office and school building environments.
- Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Certification/License:
- A valid/registered Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Speech Language Pathologist endorsement.
Education:
- Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to assignment.
- Masters or Specialist Degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
Experience:
- Experience as a Speech Language Pathologist at elementary level preferred.
- Successful prior teaching experience is a plus.
FLSA Status: Exempt
Salary/Benefits
Salary and benefits will be determined based on candidate's education and experience and the terms of the Illinois Valley Central Education Association contract.
