The primary purpose of the Occupational Therapist is to provide comprehensive occupational therapy services to JIRDC residents of the assigned caseload. The Occupational Therapist is also responsible for overseeing the occupational therapy services delivered on her/his behalf by any occupational therapy assistant(s) and/or student(s).

***Per G.S. 126-5(c1) (37), this position is Exempt from all provisions of NC General Statute Chapter 126 (State Human Resources Act) with the exception of Articles 6 and 7.***

This position is designated Mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.

  • Must have a foundational knowledge of occupational therapy.


Management Preferences:

  • Foundational knowledge of occupational therapy assessment and treatment of persons who have physical and cognitive challenges.

  • Possess effective written communication, oral communication, computer, and organizational skills for documentation and case management purposes.

  • Possess effective interpersonal skills to work within the interdisciplinary team process and be able to communicate effectively with management, peers, care providers and students.

  • Experience working with people with intellectual disabilities is preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements :

The essential physical activities that are involved with the above mentioned implementation of interventions include but may not be limited to kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, and performing work consistent with a medium amount of force (i.e. exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move an object). Activities will occur indoors and outdoors.

Licensed to practice as an Occupational Therapist in the State of North Carolina.
