JOB DESCRIPTION
I. TITLE OR CLASSIFICATION
Speech, Language, and Hearing Pathologist
II. DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
To provide appropriate clinical services to speech, language, and hearing-impaired children in the District.
III. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To screen all children in kindergarten, first, and second grades, as well as special education classes.
2. To identify through assessment, communication needs of individual students.
3. To take initiative in seeking additional help through outside disciplines when this is indicated for the benefit of the child.
4. To provide appropriate therapeutic techniques for both functional and organic disorders, including articulation, stuttering, voice, language, cleft palate, and hearing impaired.
5. To present and utilize a variety of materials motivating to children and appropriate to their needs.
6. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly learning environment.
7. To confer with and provide relevant information regarding the therapy program and the needs of the child.
8. To identify verbal communication problems through referrals from school personnel.
9. To work effectively with principals, teachers, and other specialists in problem solving assessments.
10. To operate flexibly within the school environment.
11. To provide in-service training when desired.
12. To communicate goals and progress of the therapy program.
13. To participate in parent and school informational meetings when relevant to the speech, language, and hearing program.
IV. SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND/OR RECEIVED
Under the direct supervision of the individual school principal or designee and the general supervision of the Director of Special Education.
