PURPOSE Assists Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) in providing speech/language therapy to assigned students; performs related work as required PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES The primary function of an employee in this class is to provide speech/language therapy to assigned students under direction of a Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP). The position is directly supervised by the assigned SLP and receives direction from the building Principal or SLP Supervisor. The primary duties of the position are performed in a therapy room or classroom environment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Provides speech/language therapy to assigned students as directed by a supervising Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) to implement student's Individual Education Plan (IEP); Assists in screening, using specified screening protocols; Assists with hearing screenings, as directed by SLP; Assists in developing lesson plans and teaching objectives; Documents student progress, creating and updating files, charts, and appropriate records; Performs record-keeping, materials preparation, clerical, filing, and related program support duties, including Medicaid; Consults with assigned SLP, resource and classroom teachers, on student progress; May participate in training sessions and in-services; Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with District policies, procedures and safety practices. Assists with scheduling meeting for SLP services. Other Duties and Responsibilities Performs other related duties as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of: Speech and language services, therapy, evaluation methods, techniques, and IEP objectives; Basic understanding of speech and language development, disabilities, and disorders; Basic understanding of oral anatomy and motor development; Basic educational procedures and objectives, including classroom instruction and presentation, preparation of teaching materials and aids, behavior management and modification, district testing and grading, and student-teacher relations and interactions; Operation of specialized therapy equipment; Follow written and oral instructions and observe District policies and procedures; Prepare therapy, instructional, and related materials; Perform screening and therapy procedures, following established protocols, as designated by SLP; Prepare and maintain files, records, logs, and therapy documentation; Maintain student, school, and parental confidentiality; Operate equipment, standard office equipment, and a personal computer using programs appropriate to assigned duties; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, teachers and staff members, and other District personnel; Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; Demonstrate integrity, ingenuity and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks. ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING High school diploma or GED equivalent is required, and a bachelor's degree in Speech/language pathology, child development, or a related field is preferred; and Some speech/language therapy or other related experience is preferred; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the Knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL ABILITIES Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal conversation and to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person; Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work and assessments, prepare and review documents, and organize documents and materials; Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to perform repetitive hand/wrist/arm motions and to operate a computer and office equipment; Sufficient personal mobility, flexibility, and balance, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to work in an office environment, lifting or moving objects that weigh up to 50 lbs.; Job tasks require, with or without reasonable accommodation, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting and grasping; Must have a valid Idaho Driver's License and a vehicle to drive and/or must provide own transportation for job related activities.
