Scope of Job:

Directs and provides the evaluation, coordination and implementation of occupational therapy intervention provided to patients. Serves as a patient advocate in assuring the delivery of occupational therapy services following the policies and procedures of UTRGV.

Description of Duties:

Plans, prepares, coordinates and provides evaluation, treatment and follow-up educational instructions to patients as ordered by a medical provider.

Documents patient evaluation, treatment given, treatment progress appropriately in the medical record in the required time of 24 hours.

Completes all patient billing by end of evaluation and treatment day and submits it appropriately.

Completes a comprehensive treatment plan for each patient and documents plan appropriately in the medical record.

Communicates pertinent patient information with the patient, team members, providers, and family as allowed.

Participates in patient team discussions, rounds, clinics, and case conferences and continuing education and research opportunities as requested.

Meets required competencies for assigned area and adheres to internal controls and reporting structure. Comply with federal and state occupational therapy regulations.

May delegate duties and monitor services appropriately as approved by the Clinical Manager.

Supervises students/learners as requested after at least one year of experience

Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received:

General supervision from assigned supervisor.

Supervision Given:

Direct supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited University program.

Preferred Education:

Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited University program.

Licenses/Certifications:

Current Occupational Therapist licensure in the State of Texas. Current CPR/BLS certification.

Required Experience:

Two (2) years of occupational therapy experience.

Preferred Experience:

Clinical experience in orthopedic population. Bilingual (English - Spanish).

Equipment:

Use of standard Occupational Therapy equipment, standard office equipment and other equipment as directed.

Working Conditions:

Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office, academic and clinical environment; some travel and weekend work is required. Some lifting is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

Other:

Knowledge of health care laws and regulations. Ability to provide patient care, to prepare and maintain records. Tact, diplomacy, discretion, and confidentiality of medical information required in all matters.
