Position Type: Student Support Services - Certified/Speech and Language Pathologist Date Posted: 5/13/2025 Location: Prairie Central Primary West Prairie Central Primary West Speech Language Pathologist: Job Title: School Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) Reports To: Special Education Director or Principal School/District: Prairie Central CUSD #8 Job Summary: The School Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for providing comprehensive speech and language services to students with communication and swallowing disorders within the school setting. The SLP will identify, assess, diagnose, and treat a wide range of communication impairments that may impact a student's educational performance. This role involves collaboration with educators, parents, and other professionals to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students. The School SLP will adhere to the rules and regulations set forth by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR). Key Responsibilities: Screening and Assessment: Conduct screenings and comprehensive evaluations of students' speech, language (expressive and receptive), voice, fluency, articulation, and pragmatics to identify communication disorders. Assess oral motor skills and swallowing function when appropriate. Diagnosis: Analyze assessment data to determine the presence and nature of communication and/or swallowing disorders that impact educational performance. Prepare comprehensive evaluation reports that document findings and recommendations. Individualized Education Program (IEP) Development: Collaborate with the IEP team (including teachers, parents, administrators, and other related service providers) to develop individualized goals and objectives that are educationally relevant and aligned with the student's needs. Participate actively in IEP meetings. Therapy Implementation: Provide direct and indirect speech and language therapy services to students based on their IEP goals, utilizing evidence-based practices and a variety of service delivery models (e.g., individual therapy, small group therapy, classroom-based interventions). Progress Monitoring and Data Collection: Collect and analyze data to monitor student progress toward IEP goals and objectives. Adjust therapy strategies as needed and provide regular updates to the IEP team and parents. Collaboration and Consultation: Consult and collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, parents, and other professionals to integrate communication goals into the curriculum and classroom activities. Provide strategies and support to facilitate students' communication skills in various educational settings. Parent Communication and Education: Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding their child's communication needs, therapy goals, progress, and home-based activities to support carryover of skills. Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and confidential student records, including evaluation reports, IEPs, progress notes, attendance logs, and other required documentation in compliance with school district policies and state/federal regulations. Professional Development: Participate in ongoing professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills in speech-language pathology and education. Stay current with best practices and research in the field. Assistive Technology: Evaluate the need for and facilitate the use of assistive technology to support students' communication needs. Supervision (if applicable): May supervise Speech-Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs) or clinical fellows as assigned. Adherence to Regulations: Comply with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and school district policies, including those related to special education and student confidentiality. Qualifications: Master's or Doctoral degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an approved and/or ASHA-accredited program. Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an endorsement in Speech and Language Impaired (SLI) from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). Current license as a Speech-Language Pathologist from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR). Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from ASHA preferred. Experience working with school-aged children with a variety of communication disorders preferred. Knowledge of IEP development and implementation processes. Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Salary and Benefits:Salary will be commensurate with experience, education, and the school district's salary schedule. Range $45,500-$89,146
